Chapter 264 Carlisle waved his hand dismissively and exchanged a few more pleasantries with Hugh. Then, he stepped inside the room.
"Katrina, I'm here to take you home." Carlisle walked up to her, taking her hand as if she had been misbehaving. He said gently, "Now that you've thrown your tantrum, you should be feeling calmer, right? We've already caused the police enough trouble tonight, so let's just go home." She was throwing a tantrum? Katrina looked up at him. After everything she had done tonight, did he still think she was just throwing a fit? Or was he keeping up this act of a considerate and gentle husband because there were outsiders? Was it all because he was afraid tonight's events might tarnish his reputation? Katrina scoffed and shook his hand away. "Don't pretend to be so innocent. If you hadn't ordered your men to abduct me, none of this would have happened!" "What abduction?" Carlisle frowned, feigning confusion. "I only told them to bring you back. Did they overstep? Just calm down first. I'll deal with them when we get home." "Drop the act!" Katrina sneered. "If it weren't for your orders, would they dare treatlike that? Carlisle Zachman, you knew exactly what you were doing.

"How could you think that way? We're husband and wife," he said through gritted teeth, his voice low with a hint of warning.
Katrina could hear the threat in his tone. He was worried about what she might say in front of outsiders and damage his reputation. But what did she have to worry about? "We're not for much longer." Katrina glared at him defiantly. "It's a fact that your men keptagainst my will. If you-" "Mrs. Zachman," a voice from beside Katrina interrupted her before she could finish.
Hugh wiped the sweat from his forehead. At first, he thought this was just a marital dispute and expected it to be sharmless high-society gossip. But the more he listened to Katrina, the more he sensed that something wasn't right.
If he let them keep arguing and Katrina said something she shouldn't, tonight could becvery hard to handle. He could only cut Katrina off and quickly put an end to this matter.
Hugh looked at Katrina and adopted the tone of a mediator. He advised, "This was originally a family matter between the both of you, and as an outsider, I shouldn't interfere. But seeing how much Mr. Zachman cares about you, I feel I should speak up in fairness.

We had even said in the heat of the moment that we would get a divorce. But after all those years together, do you really think we would go through with it?" Hugh continued, "Besides, isn't marriage all about tolerance and compromise? Whatever it is, you should sit down, talk it out, and be understanding of each other. There's no need to let it escalate like tonight.
"Isn't that just giving people something to laugh about? Don't you think so?"
"Mr. Zachman has already taken the first step and even call the way here to pick you up at this hour,m Hugh said Mrs. Zachman, you should ease up. Sometimes, you have to give him a way out. Men have their pride, and pushing things too far isn't beneficial to you."
He spoke with the tone of someone who had been through it all. He shot Katrina a look/ hinting to her to back down and smooth things over. Katrina's expression remained icy, and she refused to budge. "Do I have to accept it just because he's backing down? Chief Zeller, stay out of this if you don't have an understanding of the situation.
"Does he have the right to do whatever he wants tojust because he's my husband? Can he control my personal freedom?"
Hugh hadn't expected her to completely disregard him. Henwords left him momentarily speechless, and his expression gradually darkened.
