Chapter 247 Noticing Alexander's movements, the nurse followed his gaze and finally realized that Clara was also there.
The nurse immediately smiled and greeted her, "Ms. Salford." Seeing that Clara looked much better than she had a few days ago, the nurse could not help but feel happy for her. "You are looking much better today. Are you still feeling unwell in any way?" Hearing her name, Clara snapped out of her thoughts and returned a smile. "Thank you for taking care ofthese past few days. I feel much better now." The nurse nodded, glancing between her and Alexander with a teasing look.

"So, he would only stand downstairs, ask us about your condition, and leave once he was sure you were doing alright. I thought he was not planning to cup to see you today, either." The nurse then noticed Clara's change of shoes. "Are you two heading out?" Clara nodded. "The weather is nice today. We are planning to take a walk nearby." The nurse understood and reminded her, "It is good for your recovery to get sfresh air and sunlight. Just be careful since you have only just started recovering. Avoid catching a cold, or your illness might relapse and leave lingering effects." "I will keep that in mind." "Then, I will leave you to it. I need to get back to work," the nurse said her goodbyes, gave Alexander a quick nod, and walked away.
Clara watched her leave, then clasped her hands behind her back and stepped closer to Alexander with a smile. "The nurse just said..." Before she could finish her sentence, Alexander's face visibly flushed. When he saw Clara's bright expression, his heart skipped a beat he could not control.
He pretended to be unaffected and raised a fist to his lips, giving a small cough as if to cover his emotions. "Don't get the wrong idea. You are the only person I know here and the only friend I have. If something happened to you, then I would not have a single friend left in this place.
"And besides, you promised to teachhow to cook. That makes you my half- teacher. I cannot just ignore you..." His voice suddenly dropped to a near murmur, as if talking to himself. "What if you went back with him?" "Huh? What was that?" Clara did not catch his last words.
A flicker of frustration flashed through Alexander's eyes before he quickly covered it up. "Nothing. Just reminding you not to forget your promise." Seeing his reaction, Clara chose not to dwell on it. "Don't worry. I won't break my promise." After a brief pause, she hesitated before asking, "I never asked before, but why are you here alone? You are not from this town, are you?" Alexander lowered his gaze and remained silent for a few seconds before speaking in an intentionally casual tone. "Nothing much. I have spent my whole life surrounded by the noise of the city. I just wanted to experience something different and get a feel for a quieter place. Are you not the same?"

Just like her, coming here was about finding a new direction and purpose in life. It was about letting go, but also about running away.
She did not want to lay out all her past burdens for someone else to see. That would mean exposing all her struggles and vulnerabilities, something she could never bring herself to do. She understood Alexander. She also
knew he was not telling the truthjust now. But if he did not want to say more, she would not ask. That was wouldnotask.
the kind of distance adults learned to respect. "You are right. The scenery here is beautiful, and it is a very peaceful place. I like it here a lot." Clara lifted her gaze and smiled.
Here, she could finally feel at ease.
