Chapter 210 A Curse To Everyone Around You
Eric was caught off guard. Hadley had never brought up her mother around him before, at least not that he could
recall.
Pausing for a moment, he asked, “Is your mother buried here?”
“Yes.”
Her gaze was locked on the distant mountain, her expression filled with melancholy.
Without a word, Eric reached out and took her hand, noting her pallor.
“Is it a special day for her, like a birthday or an anniversary?”
“No.”
Hadley shook her head, letting out a long sigh. “I just really miss her today. | felt drawn here.”
Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke, shimmering with sadness.
Feeling her sorrow, Eric squeezed her hand tighter. “Let's keep going.”
Navigating the challenging mountain path, Eric was cautious, supporting her at every difficult step.
“Take it slow here.”
Clinging to his arm, Hadley stepped onto stable ground and paused, looking earnestly into his eyes. Eric,
confused, asked, “Have we arrived?”
“Eric.” She shook her head gently. “Please stay here. | don’t want my mother to see you.”
“What?”
What did she mean by that?
Eric almost instantly understood, but with that ca surge of uncontrollable anger!
“Hadley!” he exclaimed, releasing her hand and starting to pace.
He stopped abruptly in front of her and asked, “You don’t want her to see me?”
“No.”
Hadley shook her head, her expression open and genuine.
She seemed perplexed by his growing irritation. “Does this upset you?”

“Should | not feel this way?” Eric asked with a bitter laugh, his complexion turning ashen. “Given the nature of
our relationship, shouldn't | be here to honor your mother?”

“Our relationship?” Hadley echoed his words, her expression void of emotion, her tone icy.
“What exactly are we to each other, Eric? Are you my ex-husband, or are you still my boyfriend while having
feelings for someone else?”
“Hadley...”
“Don’t say anything.”
Exhaustion weighed on Hadley, leaving her unwilling to argue any further. “My mother loved me. She worried
aboutuntil her last moments... | can’t stand the thought of her knowing how messy my personal life has
become.”
Her gaze lifted to meet his, her eyes brimming with tears that threatened to spill, her face on the verge of
crumbling.
“Remember your promise to treatbetter from now on? Was that just empty talk?”
Eric found himself speechless.
He had made promises, but could they hold any weight now?
Yet, seeing Hadley’s distraught face, he couldn’t deny her..
“Please wait here,” Hadley said softly, her plea gentle. “I'll return shortly.”
Eric managed to curb his frustration, nodding stiffly. “Okay.”
“Thank you.”
He handed her the bouquet and watched her slowly move away.
The urge to follow was strong... yet he merely entertained the thought.
In that moment, he knew he didn’t deserve to meet her mother. Once perhaps he had, but who was to blfor
that changing?
He was once her husband.
At that moment, however, he failed to appreciate that status.
Regrets wouldn't change anything.
He silently vowed to one day reclaim that role.
Approaching the grave, Hadley hesitated briefly before kneeling to arrange the bouquet of flowers.
Her mother’s tombstone featured a photograph of her in her youth, full of life.
Memories of her mother’s passing flooded back...
No matter the passage of time, the memories always left Hadley feeling choked, and then overwhelmed by

profound grief.
If only she hadn’t been involved, perhaps her mother would not have met with that tragic accident...
“Mom, mom.”
Her fingers tenderly traced the photo of her mother as tears streamed down her face. “Mom, it’s Hadley. I'm
here.”
Guilt and yearning overwhelmed her simultaneously.
She wrapped her arms around the tombstone, as if hugging her mother, saying through tears, “Mom, I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry...”
Yet no matter how heartfelt her apologies, they would never reach her mother’s ears.
“Hadley?”
Suddenly, a female voice sounded behind her.
Startled, Hadley turned her head slowly.
“It really is you, Hadley!”
Noreen approached, holding flowers, tears tinging her eyes as she knelt beside Hadley.
“After all these years, you've grown so much!”
Her gaze swept over Hadley, assessing her.
To anyone else, Noreen might appear a caring relative.
Yet Hadley’s eyes remained cold. Noreen was her aunt and the very woman who had torn her family apart and
left her in a state of dependence.
A shameless person who had stolen her sister's husband, deceiving all who knew her.
What was her aim with these games? Why did she not shed a single tear during those shameful moments?
Following the shocking scandal, Noreen’s father’s life ended in fury, while her mother cut all ties...
Was she now crying for Brady?
Such despicable people, she and Cade; perfectly matched in their malevolence-one leaving, the other quick to
follow!
Cade had succumbed to bribery, but Noreen, what was her angle now?
“Hadley.” Pointing at the tombstone, Noreen said, “Throughout your years away from Srixby, I've been the one
tending to your mother’s grave. We even had this tombstone restored just last year...”
“And your point?”
Hearing her voice for a moment was enough to sicken Hadley. “Do you really believe these gestures can erase
your mistakes?”
“No, it's not like that...”

Overwhelmed, Noreen stopped to cover her face, weeping quietly.
“Hadley, we acknowledged our faults ages ago! We were young and overwhelmed by emotion... Aren't you old
enough now to understand? The heart's desires between men and women are beyond our control. But we've
already acknowledged our mistakes.”
How disgusting!
Hadley rose, refusing to witness her charade any longer.
“Hadley!”
Desperate, Noreen reached out and grasped Hadley’s arm, her cheeks damp from her tears, “Please, I'm
begging you, save Brady. I'll do anything-just save him. He's your brother! Can you really stand by and watch
him die?”
“Yes, | can.” Hadley averted her gaze, peering downward at her. “He’s always been nothing but trouble. Perhaps
this is for the best.”
“You...” Noreen was left speechless, seething with fury.
“Humph.” With a scoff, Hadley taunted, “Are you upset? Do you even have that right to be? When you shattered
my family, did you ever anticipate retribution like this? It’s almost poetic, isn't it?”
She broke away from Noreen’s grasp and turned around.
“Hadley!” Realizing her pleas were ignored, Noreen’s face twisted with rage. “I destroyed your family? Stop lying
to yourself! The real reason your mother died was you... Hadley! You were the one who killed her!”
Hadley stopped in her tracks, her vision suddenly turning blood-red.
She couldn’t remain here a moment longer.
Her fists clenched, she began to walk faster.
“Haha! Hadley, where do you think you're going? You're a heartless, selfish monster-a curse to everyone around
you! It was you who took your mother’s life, always you! Ha!”
With each taunt, Hadley’s complexion turned ever more ashen, her legs barely supporting her.
She had to run, stumbling as she went. Where was she?
“Hadley?”
Out of nowhere, a familiar voice reached her ears.
Eric noticed her from a distance, quickened his pace to her side, and grasped her arm. “Hadley, what happened?
You look so...”
He noticed how shaken she seemed.
Yet he couldn’t complete his thought as Hadley collapsed into his embrace, clutching him tightly.
