Chapter 230 Sebastian was simmering with frustration.

When he went to grab the cake just now, the barbecue area was buzzing with energy.

Lucas was there with Tiffany, laughing and chatting with Mason and the others.

It was also then that Sebastian overheard Tim from Holt Corporation gossiping, saying that Tiffany had seen fireworks go off at the harbor. She wanted to see more of it, so he arranged the whole spectacle just for her.

What a show he put on! But did Lucas even remember that today was Evelyn's birthday? How could he be out there having fun with another woman on her birthday? Evelyn stood by the window and stared at the dazzling fireworks. They reflected like dreams in her eyes through the glass.

Memories that were buried deep surfaced once more.

The night she was diagnosed with cancer, there had been a fireworks display just like this, beautiful and surreal. Lucas lit fireworks for Tiffany on her birthday.

Now, on Evelyn's birthday, he lit even prettier fireworks for Tiffany.

Eventually, she quietly looked away and turned to Sebastian. "It's alright. Don't waste your emotions on things that aren't worth it." Still, Sebastian felt that this was too much. "I just think that he went too far with this. He's not even pretending anymore." Was a simple birthday wish that hard to say? Evelyn gathered the materials she was going to discuss with Graham later. "It's not a roll call. If he shows up, we will have to share our cake with him. Isn't it better to enjoy it ourselves?" Sebastian was rendered speechless. That somehow made sense.

He felt a little proud. Their birthday star had such a pure heart. It made him feel so much better.

Evelyn was just about to head to Graham's room with Sebastian when she received a message.

It was from Blake. "Cdownstairs." Evelyn frowned.

Another message quickly followed, "I'm downstairs, at the hotel entrance." She was not particularly surprised. With so many companies visiting the base, it would not be hard for someone like Blake to figure out which hotel she was staying at.

She did not want to respond, but Blake had already called her.

Evelyn frowned slightly. Given that he was already downstairs, it was hard to avoid him.

"Who is it?" Sebastian asked.

Evelyn's expression stayed the sas she said, "Seb, go on ahead. I'll answer this call first." Sebastian did not think too much about it. He took the cake and headed to Graham's room.

Evelyn answered the call, turning to look at the fireworks Lucas had set off to make his girlfriend happy.

There was a moment of silence on the other end before Blake finally spoke lazily. "How about we meet up later? To celebrate your birthday." "I'm busy," Evelyn replied coldly.

Blake chuckled lightly as if he had not understood her intention. "Busy with what?" Evelyn frowned. She heard the click of a lighter. He was probably smoking now.

"I brought Jessica here to shop today," Blake said. "We met with our wedding dress designer." "Congrats," Evelyn said sincerely as she watched the fireworks outside the window. Caught off guard, Blake went silent.

Then, his tone turned dark. "So I'm here. To spend your Birthday. With you." "There's no need. I have plans." "What kind of plans? Watching your husband light fireworks for his mistress?" Blake mocked. "Evelyn, refusing to meetmight be your way of protecting your dignity, but you're fine with watching your husband get lovey- dovey with another woman?" Evelyn had not expected Blake to speak so venomously. Her gaze grew colder by the second.

Blake gave a sarcastic laugh, his voice low and bitter with anger. "Where does that temper of yours go when it comes to Lucas? Are you really going to wait until he sleeps with Tiffany before you're satisfied? Evelyn...

"Just how pathetic are you?" Even though Evelyn had long severed any ties with Blake, she was still shocked by his scathing words.

A chill passed through her eyes. Not holding back anymore, she retorted, "My marriage is my choice. Whether to leave or endure is my decision to make. Blake Harrison, we're not even related by blood. You have no right to interfere with my life!" She hung up without hesitation.

Evelyn knew Blake thought she was still compromising for Lucas' sake, but she did not feel the need to explain herself to him.

She turned and headed to Graham's room.

From now on, she would no longer waste her emotions and energy on anyone who did not deserve it.

Blake stared at his phone, now disconnected from the call.

He sat motionless in the car, smoking cigarettes one after another.

He did not call Evelyn back.

He turned to the carefully wrapped present sitting in the passenger seat. He stared at it for a long while before letting out a bitter laugh.

Even now, she still held fast to her marriage.

How pathetic! How laughable! He lowered the window and looked up at the fireworks overhead.

Sorrow surged behind his eyes.

Evelyn did not let Blake's call affect her too much.

Graham knew it was her birthday today and was merciful toward her. He only talked with her for less than an hour. Even his criticism was much gentler than usual. The three of them shared a small cake.

Evelyn's mood remained unaffected by anyone or anything else.

Though fireworks still occasionally burst in the sky outside the window, Sebastian closed the curtains.

He knew that Evelyn was not bothered by it—but still, out of sight, out of mind.

After dinner, Evelyn joined Graham and Sebastian for a discussion on current internationaXaffairs and future policy trends. They all agreed that renewable energy would be a strong area to invest in. By the tthey wrapped up, it was nearly 10:00 pm.

Graham finally dismissed them, asking Evelyn to compile a more detailed proposal and meet him again tomorrow before their return.

Evelyn and Sebastian headed back to their respective rooms.

Her suite had already been cleaned and tidied up.

At the entrance, she noticed a few new items had been added.

She did not think much of it, changed her shoes, and walked straight in.

A huge bouquet of vintage red roses cinto sight. Their rich and heady scent filled the room.

Evelyn recognized the variety immediately. They were top-grade Aquadorian roses.

But then, her brows knit together.

Who sent them? A knock at the door pulled her back to the moment. She turned to answer it.

When Evelyn cface to face with Lucas' beautiful eyes, her expression remained as calm as still water.
