Chapter 229 Evelyn slowed her steps and frowned. She had not expected to run into them while on a simple walk.

As for the nursery Mason mentioned, there was never a designated place for a nursery in their marital home.

That house had its layout fixed from the moment they moved in after marriage.

The third floor consisted of Lucas' study, a gym, and a room to welcguests with tea. Meanwhile, the second floor housed their bedroom, Evelyn's study, and a walk-in closet.

Even after years of marriage, Lucas never brought up the idea of having a nursery.

Throughout her three years of marriage, Lucas was never interested in having children with her. He kept delaying it for as long as he could.

But now, he had remodeled the house's layout and even added a nursery.

For a man like him to change, all she could say was he had met his true love. Evelyn did not walk any further. She turned and walked back to her room.

As soon as she entered her room, she received a call from Deborah. She asked how Evelyn planned to spend her birthday tomorrow.

Evelyn paused. She had forgotten that her birthday was tomorrow.

She thought for a moment and answered that she would decide after finishing her work.

The next day, Evelyn prepared a printed copy of her analysis and summary before heading downstairs. Graham did not like reading things digitally.

She received Justine's message when she stepped out of the elevator, wishing her a happy birthday.

She also mentioned that she had Evelyn's present prepared and would give it to her when she returned to Clementon.

Evelyn smiled and kept her phone away, ready to continue walking.

Behind her, someone was pushing a luggage cart out of the elevator. It bumped into Evelyn due to her being in a blind spot. She staggered, her purse and the documents in her hands falling to the ground.

The person quickly apologized.

Evelyn did not mind it and waved her hand. "It's okay." She bent down to pick up her things. At this moment, a pair of legs cinto her view, bending down and picking up everything for her.

Brandon glanced at the contents of the papers out of habit.

He froze for a second and frowned.

When Evelyn saw it was Brandon, her lips pressed into a line, and her expression went cold. She swiftly pulled back everything from his hand.

Brandon noticed her attitude.

Honestly, he did not see that it was Evelyn at first. He had just cover to help when it happened.

If he had known it was Evelyn, he would not have bothered.

Now, facing Evelyn's cold expression, he could not help but frown. "Ms. Reed, so this is how you thank someone?" Evelyn kept her documents away, and her gaze was icy cold. "Sometimes, being too self-righteous would cause trouble for others." She could not be bothered to argue with Brandon. She turned on her heels and walked away.

Brandon's expression shifted. He stared at her, annoyed. What was with that woman's unpredictable temper? However, he recalled what he had seen in her documents. The level of professionalism it contained was beyond what he imagined.

How could something like that end up in her hands? He frowned, thinking about it deeply.

"Mr. Connor?" Behind him, Tiffany stepped out of the elevator and saw him. She approached with a polite greeting.

Brandon snapped out of it and turned to her. "Where's Mr. Grant?" He smiled.

"He went down beforeand is already waiting outside," Tiffany answered with a gentle smile.

Brandon paused instinctively. "You two are staying together?" Tiffany raised a brow and simply smiled without answering.

Brandon realized that his question was unnecessary, so he switched topics. "Is there anything on the agenda at the base today?" "There is. When we get back tonight, we will have a discussion with Professor Hill about the key elements of the flight system. If we could spark new ideas, that would be best." Brandon went silent for a moment. For sreason, he thought of the documents Evelyn had just dropped. He looked at Tiffany's graceful profile and asked, "Ms. Moore, do you have ideas yet?" After meeting up with Sebastian, Evelyn received a milkshake from him. "Dear birthday girl, how would you like to spend your birthday today? How about I take you out for dinner once we're done today?" Of course, he remembered Evelyn's birthday.

A few years ago, the UN2 combat drone at the research institute announced its success exactly on her birthday. Graham had chewed him out from head to toe that day, saying he had lived four more years than Evelyn but achieved nothing.

Sebastian remembered that vividly.

Evelyn smiled at him. "Did you forget? We have to see Professor Hill today, so there's no tto eat." Sebastian clicked his tongue and said, "That old man... You still want to be his student? He's going to work you to death." Evelyn smiled at his remarks. She tucked her documents back into her bag and said, "Birthday or not, it doesn't make a difference to me." She did not care about birthdays anymore.

Sebastian paused and frowned. "Does Lucas know today's your birthday?" Evelyn shook her head with an indifferent expression. "We're divorced. Whether he knows or not doesn't matter anymore." Over the years, only Maria ever remembered.

The first year, Maria cover to celebrate her birthday. Lucas was there too, so it could count as a full birthday celebration.

After that, Lucas just forgot.

Michael would arrange gifts for her during every celebration. Lucas did not need to lift a finger at all as his staff members would take care of everything. Naturally, they would not bother him with these things.

Sebastian snorted. "I'll tell Dad about it tonight. We will celebrate together with you." Lucas be damned.

By the tthey finished at the base, Evelyn was drained of all her energy.

She returned to her room for a soak in the tub.

When she got out, she saw Maria's message wishing her a happy m birthday and that she had a gift prepared too. Evelyn felt warmth in her heart and thanked Maria over text.

Maria replied almost immediately. "Is Lucas with you? He'll be celebrating your birthday with you, right?" Evelyn did not bat an eye and replied, "He is. Don't worry, Grandma." She said that to keep Maria from making a fuss and pestering Lucas about it.

As expected, Maria was instantly satisfied.

After their conversation, Sebastian cover with a birthday cake in his hand.

However, his expression was a little off.

Puzzled, Evelyn asked, "What's wrong?" Sebastian gritted his teeth and said, "Look out the window." Evelyn turned to look.

Outside, short bursts of fireworks lit up the sky, colorful and dazzling.

Sebastian's face was taut with displeasure. He let out a snort and m exclaimed, "Today's your birthday, but heard that this afternoon, Lucas went shopping with Tiffany. He even bought those fireworks especially for her! "They're all downstairs at the barbecue area, lighting fireworks together while eating!"
