Chapter 219 Maria smacked Lucas' arm and hissed, "Con, you silly brat! Why didn't you talk to Evie? Can't you change this character trait of yours?" She noticed that Lucas had only paid attention to the books ever since he returned. It was as if those books were more attractive to him than Evelyn.

Mason heard what Maria said. He poked fun at Lucas and said, "Well, he's afraid Ms. Reed won't want to leave anymore if he was nice to her. All women are very soft-hearted, you see." This was especially the case for Evelyn, who was madly in love with Lucas.

Lucas did not think much about what Mason said. He just ignored him and ended the call.

"Why are you still standing there? Take Evie to the office." Maria did not feel at ease letting Evelyn leave on her own, so she dragged Lucas out the door.

As soon as Evelyn closed the trunk, she said gently, "It's fine, Grandma. There's no need for the trouble." Lucas raised his eyebrow. He certainly did not have the intention of giving her a lift back.

He curled his lips and said, "See, Grandma. Evie can do it herself." Evelyn stopped in her tracks for two seconds because he'd called her "Evie". It was barely noticeable, but she frowned a little.

She sometimes admired Lucas' ability to put on an act.

She would not-and did not-wish to let him give her a ride. That said, he would always leave the ball in her court when it cto something that he was unwilling to do.

Evelyn glanced at Maria and said, "I'm going to get going, Grandma." She got into the car and did not say anything else to Lucas.

After she left, she did not go to the office. She brought the flowers hinstead.

She had been keeping these flowers for years.

Back when she was living in the Harrison residence, Lily kept saying she was allergic to pollen and did not allow her to keep them.

Derek felt sorry for his youngest daughter, so he urged Evelyn to throw them away. He asked her to be considerate toward her younger sister and not to be too selfish.

From Derek keeping a mistress to the passing of Naomi, and after all the indescribable things that happened after Evelyn entered Lucas' property, her father-daughter relationship with Derek was completely broken.

As for these flowers, it was Blake who had someone remake her balcony garden, saving these little bits of personal belongings for her.

He hardly ever went hto begin with, so of course, he did not care about all these insignificant matters. Evelyn checked the soil moisture and the health of the leaves. It was after she confirmed that they were in great condition that she went to pack for Pearlia.

There was plenty to be learned from the joint project under Graham this time. It would be good for the paper she would be writing for the Science Citation Index, or better known as the SCI. It would also be highly beneficial for her when she applied for the master's program later.

The following day, Sebastian picked Evelyn up and drove to the airport.

They were still not sure which other companies would be involved in the project.

After they arrived at the airport, Sebastian went to get their boarding passes.

By the the returned, both he and Evelyn saw Tiffany, who was well-dressed and strutting around in heels at the other end of the airport. She was followed by Michael, who cto send her off.

Tiffany saw them as well. She nodded at Sebastian calmly to greet him and went upstairs. She did not even glance at Evelyn at all, pretending like Evelyn was transparent.

Evelyn saw Michael and paused for a second before she stopped paying attention to him.

Michael was an executive assistant, yet Lucas sent him to take Tiffany to the airport. It was clear how much Lucas loved and valued Tiffany.

It was only then that Sebastian remarked, "Tiffany is also part of the research team." Evelyn looked at the boarding tbefore she asked, "Mustn't the participants be core technicians within a company to be able to take up a spot?"

Sebastian pulled her suitcase for her and said, "Tiffany used to be on the team in TechNova Group. After she had a fallout with us, she was no longer considered a core member of the team. "But I heard that Lucas formed a team for her at the last minute to let her take a spot. Since she has a legitimate status, she was able to participate." What special treatment she received! It was no wonder everybody from TechNova Group treated Tiffany as Lucas' wife.

Evelyn's expression did not change as she was not surprised.

With Lucas' care and him paving the way for her, Tiffany had an advanced starting point. She would certainly be alforce to be reckoned with in the future. "But this is quite strange. I thought Lucas would postpone his work and go with Tiffany. I'm surprised not to see him." Sebastian clicked his tongue.

Evelyn fell silent. She did not plan to let them distract her.

Everybody was supposed to meet up at the stime, so the om representatives from all companies Would arrive at Pearlia at the stime. Graham would send a car to pick them all up. As soon as they exited the airport after landing in Pearlia, Evelyn saw a familiar face in the crowd.
