Chapter 218 Maria was surprised to see Evelyn at Grant Manor, so she held her hand and asked, "Why are you back so late? Did you just get off work?" She thought it would take a long while before Evelyn could cand visit her after she had called that day.

Evelyn was very gentle to Maria as she replied, "Yes. I just cfrom the office. Did Lucas send sjasmines here today? I want to move them to the office." Maria was dazed. "He did. He said it was your favorite. Your marital his all torn down, and the construction is going to start soon. The jasmines would not survive if they were left there." Evelyn went along with it and said, "That's why I want to bring them to the office. It'll be easier forto take care of them." "Just leave them here. Cand have a look, Evie." Maria pulled Evelyn to the conservatory on the left of the main entrance.

Evelyn saw the jasmine flowers that had been transplanted.

She did not manage to take care of them in the past two months, but they were still kept very well. Their leaves were green, and they even had flower buds sprouting.

For sreason, she let out a sigh of relief.

Maria glanced at the time, and an idea popped up in her head. "Evie, give Lucas a call and ask him to chere as well," she said.

Evie took a pause. Her gaze was as calm as ever.

Putting aside the issue of whether they should stay over or not, the two of them, who were once a married couple, did not even have each others' numbers right now. Strangers might even do better than them.

"Grandma, my phone is out of battery, so I'm not going to call him." Evelyn smiled gently, but she had a firm attitude.

Maria said nothing else after she saw her reaction.

While Evelyn was checking on the flowers, Maria left the conservatory and called Lucas herself. She did not tell him about Evelyn. She just said she had a headache, and she asked Lucas to head over as soon as possible. That was why Lucas agreed.

With a big grin on her face, Maria went back and chatted with Evelyn for a while longer. "You haven't had dinner, have you? Should I get them to make something for you?" she asked.

She looked at Evelyn's thin body with concern.

Evelyn was tall, and she looked very thin at the moment. Maria could not help but feel sorry for her.

Evelyn glanced at the tand replied, "It's fine, Grandma. I'm not hungry. I'll take the flowers to the office later." Maria was shocked and said, "It's almost 9:30 pm. Why go through all that trouble right now? Just spend the night here and take care of them tomorrow." As soon as Maria said that, they heard a car honk coming from outside.

Evelyn and Maria turned to look in the direction of the sound.

Lucas got out of the car while he was on the phone. He saw Evelyn's car parked nearby, but he did not even bat an eyelid. He just continued talking to Mason on the phone.

"I just hired a designer. He will cup with a new design draft," said Lucas.

He saw Evelyn standing in the near distance as soon as he walked in. His gaze landed on her for a second before he glanced at Maria, whose face was glowing.

It was clear that she had tricked him into coming over. However, he did not care about an insignificant matter like this.

He simply asked, "Grandma, where did you put the few books that I placed here?" Maria saw Lucas and said with a big grin, "They're in your bedroom. Do you need them tonight?" Lucas nodded. "Yes, I need them." Maria then had the household staff bring them down.

Evelyn took a glance at them. She was very familiar with those books. They were incredibly technical books in the aerospace field. Of course, they were the academic versions that were incredibly hard to find.

Maria did not care what Lucas was going to do with the books. She just said to Evelyn, "Just spend the night here, alright? I'll have them prepare ssoup for you."

However, Evelyn shook her head and turned her down gently, saying, "It's ση fine, Grandma. I'm only here to take the flowers. I have sthings to take care of at the office, so I'm not going to stay." Maria pursed her lips. She wasn't too happy as she said, "It's already so late. What kind of company would make you work overtat this hour?" Evelyn smiled. "It's fine. I'm going to get going now, Grandma." Maria could not do anything. All she could do was give Lucas a signal with her eyes.

Lucas did not notice the signal. He just kept talking to Mason over the phone. He did not pay any attention to them, and he did not care if Evelyn was going to leave or stay.

Maria glared at him.

Evelyn said she was not going to stay over and that she had sthings to take care of at the office. What more LO could Maria say? She then got the household staff to help Evelyn move the flowers into the car. Of course, that was just an excuse Evelyn cup with on the fly.

She was just there to collect the flowers. No matter how late it was, she would never choose to stay over at her ex-husband's house.
