Chapter 204 Evelyn was caught off guard by Lucas' comment.
She looked over coolly, only to find Lucas watching her with a casual gaze that somehow carried a sharp edge beneath the surface.
"A grown adult who still can't take care of herself?" he said, a faint smirk playing at his lips.
The words sounded off. They were halfway between concern and criticism. There was a subtle bite to them, cloaked in sarcasm.
Evelyn did not bother trying to figure out what he meant. She did not care enough anymore.

Can I grab it real quick?" Lucas had already walked over to the kitchen island and was pouring himself a glass of water. "What is it?" "My laptop." He paused, brow tightening slightly in thought, then finally seemed to recall something.
"I think I threw it out." Her expression shifted. "That was mine." "I could have someone dig it back out for you." His eyes flickered to her now-firmed expression, one brow raised in amusement, like he was half-joking, half- not.
Evelyn felt it was more mockery than anything else. He had only just repurchased the house and already tossed her things? He clearly did not want to keep any trace of her things-not even for a second.
That laptop, though rarely used, still felt like something he had no right to toss without asking. It did not hold anything particularly important, but the way Lucas handled it just getting rid of it on his own-rubbed her the wrong way.
She pressed her lips together, tension flaring in her temples before releasing with a sigh. "Forget it. I won't bother you anymore." "It's late. I'll give you a ride," Lucas offered, ever the gentleman.
Evelyn glanced at the tand replied without looking back, "It's fine. I'll drive myself." But he had already grabbed a jacket and walked over, lifting his eyes in a silent request for her car keys.
Just as she was about to refuse, his phone buzzed.
Lucas glanced at the screen. His lips curled slightly-an almost imperceptible softness flickering across his face. He paused, then looked at Evelyn and locked the screen.
Out of nowhere, he asked, "You're sure you don't need a ride?" Evelyn caught the shift immediately. Her expression remained calm as she turned to the door. "I'm sure." She did not bother to ask what had changed. She just headed out on her own and drove off.
She truly had not intended to let him drive her, but she was not blind either. She could tell something had cup-something that made him suddenly hope she would say no.
Whatever it was, it did not concern her.
The next day, at Flying Seal Group, Evelyn finalized the partnership with Sebastian and TechNova Group.

Evelyn stared at the familiar number for a second before coldly rejecting the call. He seemed surprised she did not answer as he kept calling, again and again. She declined every one of them.
She had a pretty good idea why he was calling. He must have already learned that Flying Seal Group had chosen TechNova Group over his company. In Blake's mind, he probably assumed that if it ever cdown to a choice between him and Lucas, she would pick him.
But the truth was, she did not choose between the two of them. She made f them. Shemade her decision based solely on the project's best interest. Justine, holding her coffee, walked over and glanced at the screen.
