Chapter 176 Lucas was probably too busy looking after his future mother-in-law, Millie, to bother replying to Evelyn's message even if he had seen it.
But they had already set a date to go to the courthouse to finalize their divorce. Evelyn knew that retrieving the ring that belonged to the Reed family after his and Tiffany's marriage certificate was issued would be much more difficult.
She no longer wanted to be entangled with Lucas. If he refused to return the ring, she would sue him.
Evelyn contacted Justine and asked her to help find a good lawyer. She planned to go to the courthouse on Monday with the lawyer in tow.

Justine was thrilled to hear that Evelyn was going to finalize the divorce and said, "Getting a divorce after Valentine's Day, that's a first! You're really changing the game!" Evelyn didn't respond, knowing full well that if she explained everything to Justine, her fiery personality would never let the matter rest easily.
Justine, in a good mood, added, "You've made it through! Tonight, I'll treat you to a meal to celebrate. How about that?" Evelyn, feeling a rare sense of relaxation, replied, "Okay." That Sunday, Maggie, who was at the marital home, called Evelyn.
"Mrs. Grant, yesterday, Mr. Pine sent over a large box of items, saying it was for you. I opened it and saw many new articles of men's clothing. Should I wash them, or would you prefer to cback and iron them?" Evelyn furrowed her brows. She hadn't expected this. "What clothes?" "Mr. Pine said these were gifts you sent to Mr. Grant. They've been kept in his office for a while, but Mr. Grant didn't want them taking up space, so he had them sent back. I believe he wants you to handle them." Evelyn's mind cleared a little. She had indeed asked Michael to bring things to Lucas before. It made sense now why she hadn't seen him using any of them. They had been left untouched in his office.
But now, it didn't concern her anymore.
"You can throw them away," Evelyn replied calmly.
In the past, she would have personally ironed Lucas' clothes, and Maggie had gotten used to contacting her for such matters.
Maggie sounded surprised. "But they're all new! And sof them are—" "Maggie, don't worry about his things anymore." Evelyn cut her off. "Dispose of them however you see fit." With that, she hung up the phone. She stood up and drew back the curtains, feeling a sense of clarity in her mind.
On Monday, Evelyn packed everything she needed for the day. She brought her ID and all other relevant documents. Lucas had set the appointment for 9:00 am. Her place was less than ten miles from the courthouse, but she was still worried about the possibility of traffic delays.
Hence, she grabbed her bag and took the subway.

Once there, Evelyn sent Lucas a message. "I'm here." She then went to get a ticket and sat in the waiting area. She waited for quite a while, watching the clock tick closer to 9:00 am.
The lawyer Justine had arranged for had already arrived, but Lucas still hadn't shown up. Unable to wait any longer, Evelyn decided to call him.
She dialed his number, and the automated message on the other end replied, "Sorry, the number you dialed is out of service..." Evelyn furrowed her brows.
Out of service? She dialed again. Still, she got the sautomated message.
Her heart skipped a beat. What could make a number go out of service? As she nervously waited for any updates, a cold voice cfrom behind her.
"Sorry, sthings got delayed. I'm here now."
Evelyn turned around to see Lucas standing there, his usual detached demeandr in place.
