Chapter 166 On the way to Grant Manor, Evelyn realized that Lucas had not returned yet.

She figured that Lucas was spending more twith Tiffany.

When he did so in the past, Evelyn felt nothing, nor did she care. However, on that particular day, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of unease.

When Maria saw Evelyn returning, she was, of course, happy. She immediately pulled Evelyn over to chat and soon asked about Lucas. "Why didn't he cback with you? What is he up to?" Evelyn lowered her gaze. "I'm not sure." Maria was unhappy and ordered someone to bring her phone so she could call Lucas, who answered this time.

It seemed that he had intentionally avoided Evelyn's call earlier.

Maria spoke sternly. "It's already past 8:00 pm. Why are you still not hfor dinner?" Evelyn couldn't hear what Lucas said, but Maria seemed to relax slightly after their conversation.

After hanging up, she pulled Evelyn over to sit down. "Let's not wait for him. We'll leave him to his own devices." Even if he couldn't make it back immediately, Evelyn knew Lucas would still return tonight.

Maria had ordered someone to cut sfruit for Evelyn, but she had no appetite. Feeling unwell for the entire day, she had struggled through the banquet. Her head was also throbbing, and her body was weary, leaving her with little energy to push through.

Evelyn grabbed her laptop and headed upstairs to rest for a while, but her sleep was restless.

She dreamt of the night Naomi passed away-her heart filled with a suffocating mix of loss, guilt, and regret. Evelyn suddenly opened her eyes, and cold sweat beaded on her forehead.

The bedside lamp was switched on, yet the room remained dim and quiet. It was empty, making the loneliness even more overwhelming as it gnawed at her like an unrelenting pain.

Yet, Evelyn had gradually becaccustomed to it over the past three years. She glanced at her phone, startled to notice that it was already 4:00 am.

It looked like Lucas never chthe entire night.

She tried to sit up but found the blanket weighed heavily on her.

"Are you awake?" A deep, calm voice cfrom behind her unexpectedly.

Turning, she found Lucas had already changed into his sleepwear, sitting at the edge of the bed and looking at his laptop.

Was he working at this hour? It was already the middle of the night. Why wasn't he sleeping? Evelyn's body felt heavy and weak, likely from a fever she'd been fighting off. Her throat was dry and painful. She was about to ask Lucas when he chwhen the laptop on the nightstand chimed several times. Lucas set his laptop aside, turning toward her. His hand reached for her computer just as she spoke. She had a pained expression. "I'll take care of it. You don't need to worry." Lucas paused for a moment, noticing a hint of wariness in her tone. Was she trying to distance herself from him? His gaze turned slightly cold at this notion. "Is there ssecret hidden in that computer?" he asked, his tone light and almost mocking.

Evelyn remained silent.

Lucas didn't press the issue. He stood up, walking over to the table where a thermos and a few boxes of medicine were placed.

He poured a glass of water. Then, he carefully read the medication instructions, confirming the dosage along with any warnings, contraindications, and side effects.

"You have a fever. Take these first," he said, handing her the medicine.

Evelyn hesitated, her brow furrowing deeply. Her gaze landed on adem used fever patches on the bedside table. It seemed like Lucas had helped her change them earlier. Was that why he hadn't been asleep yet? Evelyn didn't move, her face still pale and devoid of any visible emotion.

He could have ignored her illness, but he hadn't.

She knew he wouldn't simply disregard her in this state.

Lucas, seeing her reluctance, assumed she was worried about the taste of the medicine. He placed the water and pills closer to her.

As he stared at her pale face, his expression softened before he spoke e gently, "I brought you ssour gunt, & gummies. Have a couple of them after taking the medicine, alright?" Evelyn looked down at the candy.

Lucas saw that she still looked sick.

The blanket had been pushed off Evelyn. Coupled with her fever, she needed to avoid the alternating extremes of heat and cold.

He bent down, intending to adjust the blanket for her.

However, as soon as Evelyn saw him reaching out, she instinctively swatted it away. "Don't touch me!"
