Chapter 709
Brittany had no idea that Isaac had shown up and brought Daniel home.
Isaac had followed them discreetly, stopping outside the gated community. He didn’t dare to go in, fearing that he
would have disturbed the peace.
He feared even more that Brittany would have rejected him again.
He got out of his car and walked to a nearby convenience store to buy a pack of cigarettes. He rarely smoked, but
over the years, he had picked up the habit to numb his senses.
With a flick of his lighter, he lit the cigarette in his hand. He took a deep drag. His eyes were filled with confusion
that slowly morphed into a look of regret.
Joie had spent the afternoon with the elderly lady, Grace, who had invited her to join in for dinner.
Joie readily agreed, asking, “Where’s Isaac?”
Not seeing Isaac around made Joie slightly uneasy.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtEmily, bringing a cup of coffee, responded, “He’s gone out. He mentioned something about visiting the young
master.”
The young master referred to Daniel.
A look of disgust briefly flashed across Joie’s face. She found Brittany’s son as unbearable as Brittany herself!
Grace heaved a sigh of relief. “He’s been cooped up at home for a week. It’s about time he got out.”
She was worried that Isaac might have developed some sort of cabin fever.
During dinner, Joie casually mentioned recent events, which elicited a sigh from Grace. “Don’t get involved in that.
He made a mistake, and this is the price he has to pay!”
Joie was taken aback. Everyone in Imperial City knew that Isaac had been ousted from Grandeur Capital because of
Brittany’s and Marcel’s schemes.
Any ordinary person would have retaliated against Brittany to death. But why was Grace implying that Isaac was
the one at fault? Was she siding with Brittany?
“Grandma, do you know the whole story? It was Brittany who harmed (saac. How could you say that Isaac was in
the wrong?”
“That’s their business. We’re outsiders; we don’t have a say in it.”
Grace took a sip of her soup, lost her appetite, and excused herself from the table.
Emily hurriedly followed her. “Ma’am, you didn’t eat much tonight. Would you like me to prepare a late-night snack
for you?”
“No need.”
Back in her bedroom, Emily helped Grace take a bath. Grace then dressed and settled into a rocking chair on the
balcony. “Ma’am, Miss Joie is still here. Should we arrange for someone to drive her home?”
Usually, Grace didn’t leave Joie alone downstairs like this. The situation was rather unexpected.
Grace sighed. “You ask her.”
Grace knew very well whether Joie was genuinely busy or merely pretending. She just didn’t want to confront it.
Emily went downstairs to find Joie had finished eating. She approached her. “Miss Joie, the lady asks if you need a
driver to take you home.”/
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Sure.”
Joie had intended to get closer to Isaac, but without a chance to even exchange a few words, there was no reason
to stay any longer.
After Joie left in the car, Emily watched it disappear into the distance before returning to Grace’s room.
“Ma’am, Miss Joie has left.”
Grace nodded. Her expression was indifferent. “Have the servants distribute the fruit she brought.”
The Salter family might have lost Grandeur Capital, but they were far from broke.
Joie’s change was too obvious for Grace not to notice.
“Understood.”
When Joie got home, she dismissed her servants and angrily threw her keys on the coffee table.
Did the old lady really consider herself that important? She had the nerve to give Jole the cold shoulder!
Unfortunately, Joie hadn’t found a new backing yet, so she had to put up with Grace’s whims.
She changed her shoes and went into the bathroom. When she got out, Jole dialed Leda’s number. “Leda, let’s
meet up sometime.”
