Chapter 589
Olivia whipped out her phone, snapped a picture before sending it to William, “Brittany got a kid?”
William responded right away, “Not her own.”
Olivia found that hard to swallow.
A grown woman and a small boy, looking kind of alike. They seemed to be getting along like a house on fire. How
could they not be mother and son?
She remembered that five years prior, Brittany was pregnant. But didn’t that kid kick the bucket?
Olivia left the nursery, her mind doing somersaults. Back home, her fiancé was already waiting for her.
She walked in and pecked her fiancé on the cheek. He saw her confusion, “What’s up? Something on your mind?”
“Do you think someone could treat another’s kid as their own?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Usually, no.” Her fiancé poured her a glass of juice, “What’s the scoop? Someone popped one out?”
Olivia was more puzzled, “Today, I saw Brittany and a little boy, thick as thieves. The boy even called her mom.
That’s the one.” Olivia was confused, “I asked William. He said he knows the kid. The kid’s dad is swamped, so
Brittany’s helping out.” Knowing Brittany, she was no pushover.
“Let it go. Didn’t she tie the knot before? Having a kid is no biggie, as long as she and William are copacetic.” Her
fiancé was all about their wedding. He had no time for other people’s business.
But Olivia couldn’t let it slide. She mulled it over and even hired a private detective to figure out whose kid it was.
Brittany was none the wiser.
The crisis at Dillion Group was over, and Brittany officially returned to the Dustin Group.
Thanks to Matthew’s management, the Dustin Group was a far cry from five years before.
Brittany hadn’t been in the thick of it for a while and felt out of sorts.
Busy till afternoon, Brittany got a call from the nursery teacher. Apparently, Daniel had been scrapping with the
other kids.
Brittany dropped everything and rushed to the nursery.
Daniel’s dad was already there. He saw Brittany, his face softened, “Ms. Dustin, my bad. I didn’t raise Daniel right
and caused you trouble.”
Daniel had hurt another kid and the kid had to be taken to the hospital.
Mr. Salter, himself, couldn’t show up. So he had to step in.
Brittany didn’t expect Daniel’s dad, who was supposed to be away, to show up, she asked, “Aren’t you out of town?”
He’d told her he’d be away for a month when he left Daniel with her.
The man didn’t expect Brittany to be so sharp. He cleared his throat, “Work stuff came up, Ms. Dustin. Thanks for
looking after Daniel.” Daniel stood not far away, bruised.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Daniel.” Brittany saw his injuries and her heart ached. She called him over, “What happened? Why were you
fighting?”
Daniel’s eyes welled up, but he stubbornly stayed silent.
The man chimed in, asked the teacher. My kid started it.”
“It was not like that!” Daniel cut him off, “They said that I’m a bastard and I don’t have a mom. They said I’m
dumped. That’s why I fought!”
He’d put up with their taunts, but they pushed him. So he had to push back!
Daniel’s words struck Brittany deeply.
The man grabbed Daniel’s hand and said, “Daniel, fighting is wrong. You’re coming home with me!”
Mr. Salter had said that Daniel had to go home.
Daniel’s eyes went wide, tears rolling down his face, “I don’t want to go with you. Dad will lock me up again. I don’t
want to go. Mom, save me!”
Daniel broke free, clung to Brittany, and sobbed, “Mom, don’t leave me. I’ll be good. Don’t let me go…”
The man stopped dead in his tracks, gobsmacked.
