Chapter 71 Griffin chuckled, "Yeah, it's been a few years alright! Harvey, I heard your career's been taking off." Harvey responded modestly.
They chatted for a bit, then Orlena cupstairs from down below. She was fond of Griffin, and just like when she was a kid, she hooked on to Griffin's arm and sweetly said, "Griffin, my dad's asking for you." Griffin patted Orlena's hand affectionately.
Orlena flashed a brilliant smile, accompanied him downstairs, and asked, "Isn't Joan Lynch coming back this time?" Griffin was taken aback.
He instinctively looked back at Harvey.
That man was leaning against the French windows, his dark clothes blending in with the night outside. He was frowning, chin slightly raised, a cigarette held between his slender fingers, slowly puffing away...
Griffin thought to himself, Harvey really is a cut above the rest.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe looked downcast and told Orlena softly, "Yeah, she's not coming back for now." He couldn't make out what Orlena said next...
On the balcony, Harvey slowly finished his cigarette. After being urged by his family downstairs, he slowly descended the staircase.
Tonight, the Horigan family had important guests.
The house was bustling with busy servants.
Parker prepared a lavish feast to welchis old friend Griffin. He stood up, embraced Griffin, and said warmly, "Griffin, we haven't seen each other in years, but you're still as charming as ever! I'm getting old, clearly." Orlena playfully said, "Dad, are you trying to get another wife?" Everyone at the table laughed at this.
Pauline Horigan lovingly scolded, "You cheeky girl, always talking nonsense!." Orlena stuck out her tongue playfully, "Griffin will protect me." Pauline laughed softly, gently told Griffin, "Orlena's always been attached to you since she was little." Griffin looked at Orlena, his heart aching.
He and his wife had a daughter, but she was adopted, not their biological child. If he hadn't been so proud back then, causing his then-girlfriend to leave disappointed, would he, Griffin, have had a biological child, as lively and adorable as Orlena? He felt sad, and quietly said, "Orlena is really adorable." He then patted Orlena's head.
Orlena was slightly confused, blinking her innocent eyes.
To avoid making his old friend feel sad, Parker steered the conversation in a different direction, and the mood livened up again. But in the midst of the cheerful banquet, Parker noticed his son Harvey's mood was low, his face expressionless.
Parker sighed quietly.
The party lasted until the early hours of the morning.
Pauline had the servants prepare a guest room early, but Griffin insisted on staying at a hotel. Unable to convince him otherwise, the Horigan couple agreed to his decision and had their driver take him back to his hotel.
The party was over.
The spacious dining room looked particularly empty under the refracted crystal chandelier, with only the servants cleaning up, the sound of clinking dishes echoing.

His expression was serious, "Harvey, you didn't seem too enthusiastic about Griffin's visit today." Harvey took out a cigarette, lit it and looked down.
The thin smoke made their faces seem a bit blurry. Harvey gave a light smile, "I was probably just tired." As a father, Parker could read his son's thoughts.
He thought carefully, then slowly said, "Harvey, I don't care what your past with the Lynch family's daughter NO is like! But one thing, you young people's actions shouldn't affect my friendship with Griffin."
Harvey took a deep drag, then stubbed out the cigarette in them brown ashtray. He stood up, gave a faint smile, "I'm going to bed then."
