Chapter 198

After Eloise finished speaking, there was a long silence on the other end.

They could hear each other's faint breathing, and gradually, Harvey's breaths grew heavier.

But in the end, he simply said, "Okay."

He suggested they meet at a French restaurant that night, but Eloise refused. She spoke softly, "Let's talk in your

office."

Harvey remained silent, clearly rejecting her proposal.

Eloise needed his help, so she compromised, "Okay."

After hanging up the phone, Eloise was in a daze for a long time.

She was well aware that if she got involved with Harvey again, she'd have to give something in return for his

help. Perhaps he had already set a trap and was waiting for her.

Harvey, the man she could never truly move.

Because of her preoccupations, Eloise was distracted all day.

When Dwight walked in with the reports, he was all smiles. He threw the papers onto the table and said, "I must

say, that new guy Carter you hired is quite impressive. He's great at his job and doesn't demand a high salary. |

didn't know you had the makings of a capitalist."

Eloise browsed through the reports, her expression indifferent.

Dwight plopped down on the desk, observing her intently. "Why aren't you happy with the profits rolling in? Why

is it so hard to please you, woman? Are you lacking sTLC? How about I satisfy you? | guarantee you'll never

forget it, and you would instantly forget about that Horigan."

Closing the report, Eloise said, "Deduct $5000."

With a squawk, Dwight asked, "What for?"

"For harassing your boss."

"Darn! How many young ladies would kill forto harass them, and | don't even bother."

Eloise ignored him. She took a cigarette from him, lit it, and let it burn silently on the desk as she stared at the

glowing tip, lost in thought.

Dwight knew something was bothering her.

"A woman like you shouldn't be inhaling secondhand smoke.

Got something on your mind? Why not do it with me? | promise you'll forget all your troubles."

Eloise asked him to leave.

Dwight left in a huff, expressing his indignation, "I was just worried about you. Don't be ungrateful."

Eloise looked at him calmly, "I heard you were partying until three in the morning and cin an hour late

today, Dwight. If this happens again, don't bother coming in."

Dwight was feeling guilty.

He did go out partying last night, but it wasn't his fault. Ever since he arrived in Peterborough, he had been very

abstinent. Besides, facing Eloise's cold face every day, he was getting bored.

After partying last night, he felt energized.

He stammered, "I didn't have to go... it was... it was just like that. Nothing exciting."

Eloise didn't care about his personal life, as long as it didn't interfere with his work.

She didn't ask him to accompany her to the French restaurant that night. Eloise got out of the cab, and Harvey

was waiting for her at the entrance.

The restaurant had a romantic ambiance, and he was dressed formally in a black shirt, a dark gray tie, and a

black, handmade three-piece suit. His broad shoulders and slim waist made for an attractive figure, not to

mention his air of elegance. Everyone passing by couldn't help but steal a few extra glances at him.

Eloise couldn't help but take a deep look at him, before quickly looking away. Harvey walked over to her, his gaze

intense, "Why didn't you let Dwight drive you? If it's inconvenient next time, | can pick you up."

Eloise wanted to reply 'there won't be a next time’, but considering the favor she was asking, she swallowed her

words.

She forced a smile, "A taxi works just as well."

Harvey didn't say anything more and led her inside.

He had reserved the entire French restaurant, presumably for a quiet conversation. But instead, this made Eloise

feel more pressure. As she sat down

to order, she softly said, "You don't need to go to such lengths."

Harvey didn't care what they ate, leaving the decision entirely up to her.

He took a sip of the aperitif, giving her a slight smile, "Eloise, we've been together

for so long, but we rarely have private dates like this. This place is pretty nice, shall we chere more often?"

Eloise ordered two set meals.

After thanking the waiter, she looked at Harvey. He was leaning back in his chair, observing her.

He was indeed handsome.

Under the luxurious chandelier, he outshone the lights.

Eloise took a sip of water and spoke in a strained voice, "About Riley and Veronica's matter, | would like to ask

for..."

Harvey put down his glass, his long fingers gently caressing it. The gesture looked like he was caressing a

woman, but he did so with an air of elegance.

He chuckled lightly, "Let's talk business after dinner."

Eloise had no appetite, but she managed to force herself to eat a little. She didn't want to seem too desperate.

She needed his help, but she had to maintain her dignity.

Harvey was much more relaxed than she was. He occasionally asked her about work, and even managed to

bring up Dwight in their conversation.

There was no mention of Veronica and Gunner's divorce though.

Half an hour later, Eloise couldn't hold it in any longer. She put down her cutlery, "Attorney Horigan, we're not

here to reminisce today."

"I know."

His gaze was deep as he asked in a soft voice, "How do you want to talk about

it?"

This question left Eloise speechless. How should she talk about it? What could she say?

Harvey picked up his after-dinner drink and spoke casually, "You want to plead for Veronica and Riley? But Eloise,

you probably don't know, Gunner has already approached me. He offeredquite a generous deal to represent

him in this lawsuit, almost a third of the Gunner family's fortune. | refused... out of respect for Veronica."

After he finished speaking, he began to sip his wine, all the while studying her closely.

Eloise believed what he said. In this mess involving

Gunner and Veronica, he chose to remain neutral and help neither, waiting for her

to cto him. Harvey was indeed a cunning and scheming man.

She was speechless for a long time.

Harvey suddenly chuckled lightly, "It's quite strange. Riley and Veronica haven't been together for long, yet they

already have a child. We've been together for quite a while, and yet nothing happened?"

His words were somewhat lewd, especially spoken in a high-end restaurant like

this.

Eloise was slightly annoyed.

She suppressed her voice, "Attorney Horigan, I've cto talk to you with sincerity."

Harvey gently raised his glass, giving her another smile, "Ms. Laurent, | don't mean to hide it, but | chere

tonight with the intention to seduce you. Are you not moved at all?"

Eloise had no choice but to look at his figure.

He was indeed attractive

enough to make a woman's heart flutter.

She attempted to avert her gaze, but Harvey's tone suddenly grew serious. "I didn't want to say this in such a

mood, but if you need an answer, Eloise, cback to me. I'll help Veronica fight this legal battle."

Eloise's heart pounded in her chest.

Despite preparing for this, she was still caught off guard. Her eyes grew misty, and her pert nose turned a rosy

hue, making her look oddly vulnerable.

She pushed back her chair and stood up, her expression stone-cold. "Never."

"Is that so?"

Harvey's voice was light, "What a pity."

His mood seemed unaffected, even gentle. "Have smore to eat. You've lost weight recently."

Eloise shut her eyes briefly. "You jerk, Harvey."

He calmly wiped his mouth with a napkin, speaking softly, "Well, this jerk will be waiting for you, Eloise. | did say

| aim to seduce you here tonight."
