Chapter 50 Her Boyfriend
Corynn was in bad condition. She had burns of varying degrees on her back, arms, and legs, and to make
matters worse, dirt and mud had caked all over her wounds, risking infection.
But fortunately, her life wasn’t in any immediate danger.
Elliot looked at his blood-stained palms in a daze. It was literally Corynn’s blood on his hands. He couldn't
imagine what she had endured in the last few hours, but judging from the charred remains of the fire, it was
clear that someone had tried to burn her alive.
Just thinking about it made Elliot's heart clench with a mix of fear, anxiety and rage.
The investigators at the scene later informed him that if Corynn hadn’t thought to dig a tunnel into the dirt to
escape the fire, she wouldn't have survived.
They also noted that Corynn was quite lucky because the wind had blown the smoke away from her instead of
settling at the bottom of the pit. Otherwise, she would've suffocated to death.
When the door to the operating room opened and a nurse wheeled an unconscious Corynn out on a gurney, Elliot
walked alongside them towards the ward. However, he stopped when he heard hurried footsteps behind

him.
Glancing over his shoulder, he saw that it was Corynn’s parents, so he chose not to follow them inside the ward.
Corynn had once told him that her parents hated him.
Erick and Shirley, too anxious about their daughter's safety, failed to notice Elliot standing nearby. They had
been frantic ever since receiving the call from the hospital, and Shirley burst into tears upon seeing Corynn lying
unconscious on the hospital bed.
Even Erick’s eyes welled up with tears at the sorry sight.
He simply couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that Corynn, who was perfectly fine that morning, was now so
badly injured.
Shirley, kneeling beside Corynn’s bed, wiped away her own tears and tried to reach for Corynn’s hand, only to
find that both of them wrapped tightly in white bandages.
“Corynn...” Shirley sobbed, her voice cracking. She gently stroked Corynn’s cheek, her hands shaking
uncontrollably.
Why was the universe so hell-bent on making her daughter suffer? It was so unfair!
Erick sighed and pulled the inconsolable Shirley into a warm embrace.
“Shh,” he whispered into her hair, though his trembling voice betrayed his own anxious feelings. “The doctor
said she’s going to be okay. Don’t cry. | just know that Corynn would be so upset if she saw you like this...”

Standing outside the door, Elliot listened quietly to Corynn’s parents helpless cries.
He had already sent Kaden on a warpath to track down those who dared to harm Corynn. The second he found
out who was responsible for this....
Elliot's cold eyes flashed with a fiercely dangerous light.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Jason’s hostile voice broke the silence.
Elliot looked up at an angry-looking Jason. Just knowing that Jason had been by Corynn’s side for the past three
years while he didn’t even know where she was made his blood boil.

“Why shouldn't | be here? I'm the one who brought Corynn to the hospital,” Elliot countered frostily as he stared
Jason down. Despite knowing it was petty, he wanted to see Jason get jealous.
Sure enough, Jason’s expression hardened upon hearing this. “On Corynn’s behalf, thank you for taking her here.
However, you already know that she doesn’t want to see you, so please leave, Mr. Andrews.”
A malicious look flashed across Elliot's cold eyes. This man had no right to thank him “on Corynn’s behalf“!
But before exploding on the spot, a thought suddenly crossed his mind, and his tense jaw relaxed. “No need to
thank me,” he said calmly. “I'm her boyfriend after all. It’s only right that | be there for her when she needs
help.”
This was the last straw for Jason. He shed any trace amounts of civility and glared at Elliot murderously, his chest
heaving violently.
The two men stared each other down in silence, creating a tense atmosphere that even passing nurses could
feel.
“Have you forgotten? You're just her ex-boyfriend.” Jason emphasized the prefix “ex-“, breaking the silence with
a tone that dripped with hostility.
Seeing Jason's so angry made Elliot feel a twisted sense of satisfaction. “Funny, isn’t it?” he drawled. “It's been
three whole years, yet she still doesn’t want you to be her boyfriend.”
