Chapter 42 Meet Him Again
“What the fuck?!”
The shocked exclamation abruptly shattered the quiet of the night.
Chase gripped the iron bars with both hands, glaring furiously at the police officers standing ostade. I'm the one
who reported the crime! Can't you see? I'm the victim here! Why are you arresting mezer
“Do you hear yourself? You're not even injured. Do you know the consequences of filing a false report one
officer snapped back, whacking his baton against the iron bars angrily.
The audacity of this man! This jerk had the nerve not only to beat his girlfriend but also to accuse her of beating
him. Although the officer thought it was karma, he knew he couldn't say that aloud.
Chase's body still ached from the countless blows he had received. There was no way he hadn't been hurt
“Are you fucking kidding me? | really was beaten by my girlfriend! Look!” He rolled up his sleeves and held out
his bare arms, only to find no visible marks on his body.
Eyes wide in disbelief, he rolled up his pant legs and hiked up his shirt, but there were still no signs of braising
He ran his fingers through his hair in distress, beginning to doubt his own sanity. How could there be no marks

He looked up and met the officer's skeptical gaze.
“Lucky for us, you reported your own self. Saved us the trouble of building a case against you,” the officer
remarked smugly.
Chase was bewildered. Why the hell were they arresting him instead of Sofia?!
Seeing the visible confusion on Chase's face, the officer held up an injury identification report in front of him.
Soon, it clicked; no wonder Sofia was so brazen when she beat him!
That vicious bitch had prepared all this in advance!
“Resorting to hitting your girlfriend? Pathetic,” the officer spat coldly before turning to leave. “You'd better watch
what you say from now on.”
After dropping Sofia off at her apartment, Corynn headed home.
Upon arrival, she noticed a car parked near her house. Elliot's lone figure was standing next to it, orange embers
of his cigarette glowing in the darkness.
Corynn stepped out of her car and walked over to him. “You're not welchere.”
Her tone was cold and distant, her gaze impersonal. It was as though she saw Elliot as a total stranger.
Elliot hated the way she looked at him now.

He stubbed out the cigarette and murmured, “It’s late, it’s not safe for you to be out alone”
Corynn laughed incredulously. “Interesting take, but my safety isn’t your concern. What gives you the right to
say that to me?”
The mockery in her eyes was a stark contrast to the way she looked at him on the night they had held each
other so intimately. Yet now, she was at his throat.
Elliot reflexively touched his lips, only to recall that he had thrown his cigarette into the trash can just now.
Seeing him so out of it, Corynn laughed again, this twith a hint of malice. “What should | call you now? My

acknowledged us as a couple.”
Elliot's breath got caught in his throat. “I never saw you as just a ‘casual hookup“,”
“Then a casual fling maybe?” Corynn retorted, her gaze turning frosty. “The fact remains the same. we are not a
couple. What makes you think you have the right to meddle in my life? We're all adults here, sleeping together
was just born out of mutual needs. Were you expecting something more?”
“So, you already know that it wasthat night,” Elliot remarked dully.
“Why should it matter? Even if it wasn’t you that night, it would've been someone else,” Corynn said with a
nonchalant shrug.
Ignoring Elliot's pained gaze, she added, “You'd better get going. | don’t want my parents to see you.”
Elliot felt a sharp pain in his chest; Corynn might as well stabbed his heart with a knife.
The thought of her with another man made him want to lock her away. He wanted to keep her all to himself.
He couldn’t accept the idea that Corynn might share a bed with another man.
“I just wanted to see you,” Elliot said in a small voice.
“Get lost. My parents hate seeing you,” Corynn snapped, her patience running thin. “And so do I.”
