Chapter 568 No Longer Seeking Death
Scarlett, who was supposed to be in Dellmoor, suddenly appeared in Hallsbay.
In a booth on the second floor of a café at the end of the street, a middle-aged man was looking at a young lady
nervously. With a shaky voice, he asked, “L-Lady Scarlett, may I ask what prompted your honorable visit?”
Scarlett simply smiled and poured a cup of coffee for him. “Have a drink, Mr. Lewis.”
Howard took the cup with trembling hands and sipped performatively before asking, “Could I know why you asked
to meet me, Lady Scarlett? Your wish is my command.”
Scarlett raised an eyebrow. “Will you truly do anything I ask of you?”
“As long as I am able to accomplish it, then consider it done.”
“Alright. You were recently tasked with investigating Bailey embezzling the donations from the foundation, yes? All I
need is for you to tell them that you found out that Bailey embezzled a huge amount. Even if it's not enough to get
her sentenced to death, I want her to rot in jail for the rest of her life. Can you do that?”
Howard didn't reply instantly. Instead, he asked cautiously, “Lady Scarlett, is this coming from you or your mother?”
Scarlett looked at him amusedly and said lightly, “You should know about the rumors about my brother being head
over heels for Bailey that have been circulating recently, right? He's been thinking of marrying her. Do you think my

matriarch of the Fletcher family?”
Howard immediately understood what was going on.
“So, yes, this is from your mother. She doesn't want Bailey to continue involving herself with Mr. Raiden, so she
wants me to throw Bailey in jail and nip Raiden's intentions in the bud.”
Scarlett sipped some coffee from her own mug and said slowly, “Yes, that's right. That's exactly what my mom
wants. If you don't believe me, you can call her and have her tell you personally.”
“That won't be necessary, “Howard quickly declined. “How dare I not believe your words, Lady Scarlett? Since this
is what your mother wants, I will do my best to fulfill that wish.”
With the Fletcher family behind him, he didn't have to worry about his future position. Even if he tore up the whole
field of politics, he had nothing to be afraid of.
Scarlett smirked. “I'll be waiting for your good news. Don't let my mother down, Mr. Lewis. If you get this right and
get rid of her worries, then the bureaucracy is yours to conquer.”
“Of course! I'll make sure everything goes according to plan. I promise I won't let you guys down.”
...
Justin had been waiting outside the Xuereb mansion infirmary for two whole days and Veronique still wouldn't let
him in to see her.
She was dead set on getting a divorce and was unshakable.
Yvonne stared at Justin, who was leaning against the wall of the corridor. With a sigh, she said, “Why are you so
stubborn? You've been here for two days. At this rate, you might join her in there from exhaustion.”
Justin glanced at her and forced his stiff lips into some semblance of a smile. “That's fine. She's suffered too much
throughout the years. This is nothing compared to that. By the way, I heard that my mother is finally thinking
straight and doesn't want to kill herself anymore. How about you go in and tell Vero the good news so she can relax
a little?”
Yvonne sighed and pushed the door open before walking in.
Veronique was staring out of the window in a daze. The soft rays of sunlight made her pale skin look almost
translucent, emphasizing her sickly disposition.
Scarlett sipped some coffee from her own mug and said slowly, “Yes, that's right. That's exactly what my mom
wants. If you don't believe me, you can call her and have her tell you personally.”
She was getting weaker by the day.
“Vero, that idiot asked me to tell you that Mrs. Xuereb has already thought things through and isn't going to kill
herself anymore. He said he wanted to make sure you knew so you wouldn't worry too much.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmVeronique's dazed stare slowly focused on Yvonne as she turned to look at her. “You don't need to tell me anything.
I've already made up my mind. He should be the one you should try to convince. Once he signs the divorce
agreement papers, I'll finally be free.”
Yvonne sat next to Veronique and reached out to feel her forehead. Warmly, she quipped, “I know you're afraid of
dragging him down. You're afraid that once you're gone, he'll follow soon after, right?”
Veronique smiled bitterly. “You truly do know me the best. Yes, I'm afraid he won't be able to get over it and follow
me. Don't try to tell me otherwise either, because I already know that he's been thinking about it. I want to get rid
of those terrible thoughts.”
Yvonne found it hard to agree and shook her head gently. “There are many people who die for love. It just shows
how deeply he loved you. You should be grateful.”
Veronique pressed her lips into a thin line and tears began to well up in her eyes. “He's someone I pursued and
admired for so many years that I can't possibly do that to him now. All I want is the best for him. I don't want him to
die, so stop forcing me to stay with him. I want to stop him from thinking about ever dying for me. Please, don't
make me do this.”
“Okay, okay,” Yvonne said and reached out to hug her. “We won't force you. You can get a divorce. I'll arrange for
someone to help you guys through the process. Just calm down.”
