Chapter 487
Chloe tensed all over as her face drained of all colors.
T-The child's s-spirit? C-Could it be that the child's spirit hasn't reincarnated and is currently attached to
the mother? If that little imbecile latches on to me, won't it try and go after my life? No... No! I'm most
afraid of ghosts. I can't let that thing find me or latch onto me.
She staggered backward as that thought crossed her mind.
Bailey quirked a brow and glanced at the frightened woman. The ghost of a smile crept up her face as
she queried, “What happened to you, Ms. West? Is there a ghost lurking around me or something?”
She paused right then and smacked her forehead. “Oh, right! There is a ghost hanging around me.
Every day, she makes a fuss about wanting to seek revenge on the person who did this to her. But...
Ms. West, you haven't done anything wrong, so why are you afraid?”
At once, Chloe's face contorted as she waved her hands. “O-Oh no, nature calls, so I'm going to the
restroom. Ms. Bailey, why don't you go ahead and look for Mr. Luther in his office? We'll chat later.”
Bailey scoffed inwardly upon hearing the woman's hasty excuse.
Is that all it took to scare you? What a coward.
After watching Chloe's pathetic escape, Bailey strode into the CEO's office.
When Artemis noticed her walking in, he stood up and walked toward her, wrapping an arm around her

He wasn't trying to fool around. Instead, he was trying to lift the weight off of her body.
Naturally, Bailey accepted the man's generosity and allowed herself to shift all her weight to him the
moment he slid his arm around her waist.
“Why does Zeke want to meet me?”
Curling the corner of her lips into a smile, she responded, “He asked me if I'm the daughter of the
Shurmer family. I said I wasn't, so he ordered my hair to be taken as a sample. I suppose he wants to
do another paternity test.”
Artemis arched his brows. “It looks like my brother-in-law is rather smart, and his sense of smell is quite
sharp as well. My guess is that he noticed the abundance of rumors going around spreading that you're
an illegitimate child. He felt sorry and is now trying to set the record straight.”
“That's what I think, too. Zeke is a smart man. He's not convinced by the report from the Security
Agency, so he wants to confirm his speculation himself.”
The man lowered his eyes to look at her and asked in a gentle voice, “Do you want to stop him?”
Bailey shook her head at that. “Having a brother like Zeke wouldn't be too bad, so I don't think it's
necessary to keep the truth from him. You're right about the fact that I crave familial bonds and wish to
be acknowledged. With rumors running rampant while I'm pregnant, it'll be troubling for me, and I'm
afraid the pressure might trigger my prenatal depression.”
Tightening his embrace around her waist, Artemis reassured her, “Don't worry. I won't let something like
that happen. Just relax and don't think too much. Leave everything to me, all right?”
She wrapped her arms around his neck as a smile crept up her face. “Sure! I was planning to do that
anyway. Artemis, I'm so fortunate to have you by my side.”
Her words made the man smile. He lowered his head, pressing his forehead against hers as he
uttered, “You're right. I'm fortunate to have you by my side in this life, Bailey.”
“Hehe.”
Over in Moranta, Raymond was in the study of his residence.
“She's looking for the emerald seal? Are you sure about that?”
A hint of surprise flashed across Raymond's eyes as he directed the question to a middle-aged man
standing in the middle of the study.
Hearing this, the man inclined his head in acknowledgment. “Indeed, she's looking for the emerald
seal. In fact, she's onto us.”
Raymond eyed the man, frowning slightly. “Have you found out the reason why she's looking for the
emerald seal?” he asked, his tone laced with solemnity.
“I did. Two days ago, the Cultural Relics Bureau imported a batch of treasures, and among them was
the emerald seal. However, it was merely a well-made replica. The museum had hired an appraiser to
sort the relics, and even the appraiser didn't notice anything amiss, yet Bailey insisted that the emerald

days' time, or she'd be sued for defamation.”
Raymond burst out in laughter at his words.
“That astute woman is finally falling from grace. This is gratifying! Absolutely gratifying!”
With furrowed brows, the middle-aged man asked, “Should I send someone to move the emerald
seal?”
Raymond went quiet as he pondered his next move. After a long while, a glint flashed across his eyes.
“Didn't she oppose the marriage? Do you reckon she'd give in if we threaten her with the emerald
seal?”
The middle-aged man looked at Raymond with a hint of confusion and disbelief in his gaze. “But the
geomancer said that the emerald seal can replenish the Hoffman family's vitality, and after a century,
our family will—”
Before he could finish his sentence, Raymond waved his hand, cutting the man off. “You believe that
old zealot? Chanaea lost the emerald seal thousands of years ago, but still, it's prosperous and
continues to flourish. Using a piece of red emerald to determine the fate of a country or a family is
utterly nonsensical. I don't believe in such absurdity, for the things that truly belong to me are in my
hands. I don't believe in anything else.”
Knowing that Raymond had made up his mind, the middle-aged man didn't continue to persuade him
and merely queried, “Do you think Ms. Juliana would give in to a piece of emerald? After all, she's been
vehemently opposing the marriage for an entire decade!”
