Chapter 484
Victoria's expression turned cold, and a tinge of hesitation flashed across her eyes.
Should I let Lionel in to meet Dad? They have way too many grudges against each other. Perhaps
they'll make peace if they can have a good chat. Dad doesn't have much time left. He's always thinking
about everything that happened seven years ago. If I let Lionel meet with him to settle the past
grudges, he'll feel more at ease.
At that thought, she shut her eyes tight and said stiffly, “Let him head upstairs to meet Dad.”
The butler uttered an acknowledgment and left the living room in a hurry.
A moment later, Lionel followed him in.
Victoria stood up from the couch and strode toward the stairs.
Noticing that Lionel remained rooted to the ground, the butler immediately gave him a nudge on his
elbow and said in a low voice, “Ms. Saunders is gesturing for you to follow her upstairs. What are you
waiting for?”
Only then did realization dawn upon Lionel, and he quickly followed behind.
When they reached the second floor, Victoria abruptly paused in her tracks and said placidly, “I hope
you can accommodate my father no matter what he says. He only has three days left.”
Lionel pursed his lips and muttered with difficulty, “Okay.”

as he panted heavily.
At the sight of that, Victoria hurried over to help him lie down on the bed.
However, Vincent reached out and forcefully pried open her hands.
“I'm fine. I feel much better after Bailey gave me an injection. Go to the kitchen and get them to whip up
a few more dishes. Let's ask Mr. Gezmond to stay for a meal together.”
Victoria furrowed her brows at his request.
She knew very well Vincent was trying to send her away.
“I'm afraid Mr. Gezmond won't be interested in our humble fare, so let's not make a fool of ourselves.
Let me cut some fruits for you while you guys chat.”
“Vicky.” Vincent was evidently a little displeased, and the stir-up of emotions led to him start coughing
incessantly.
A sense of resignation filled Victoria's heart. “All right, all right. I'll head to the kitchen right away, okay?”
After watching her leave the room, Vincent uttered in a slightly shaky voice, “Close the door and take a
seat on the couch.”
Lionel slammed the door shut, but instead of walking to the couch for a seat, he went to the bedside
and questioned bluntly, “Why did you deal with the Gezmond family seven years ago?”
Stunned, Vincent said softly, “There's no reason. I did it because I coveted the Gezmond family's
company.”
“Really?” Lionel broke into a self-deprecating laugh. “I used to think you coveted our company too. But
when you transferred all the shares of Saunders Group to me, I realized you weren't greedy for fame
and fortune. You must have had other reasons for dealing with the Gezmond family back then.”
“No. There aren't any other reasons. I merely wanted to acquire and absorb the Gezmond family's
power. You don't have to overthink it.”
Lionel stared at Vincent coldly. “Do you really not want to reveal the truth? I'm afraid your daughter
won't be able to live in peace if I can't get things off my chest. Perhaps we will even live in hatred for
the rest of our lives.”
“No.” Vincent struggled to sit upright. He grabbed Lionel's arm, and said anxiously, “She's pregnant
now. You two will have a happy family, so you better treat her well. Otherwise, I'll haunt you even in
death.”
Lionel let out a light chuckle, but there was no warmth in his expression or his gaze.
“I can treat her well if you want, but you have to explain yourself. Why did you bring down the Gezmond
family seven years ago? If you don't tell me, I'll forever remember that you're the one who forced my
father into an early grave. In that case, Victoria will become the daughter of my enemy. Do you think I'll
still love her wholeheartedly?”
Vincent loosened his grip on Lionel's arm and snapped his brows together as a turmoil of emotions

“Tell me. I'll hear you out.”
After a silence that lasted for an eternity, Vincent muttered, “Forget it. There's no way I can keep it from
you if you're adamant about finding out. Perhaps you will treat my daughter well after you learn about
the truth. Fiona died at the hands of your father. I took action against the Gezmond family because I
wanted to avenge my wife. Setting you up to sleep with Kimberly was my scheme to break Vicky and
you up. I could not accept that my daughter had fallen in love with the son of her mother's murderer.”
Lionel found it hard to accept the truth and staggered a few steps back. He stared at Vincent in
disbelief, and with a trembling voice, he queried, “A-Are you telling the truth? M-Mrs. Saunders died
because of my father?”
At the mention of Fiona, Vincent shut his eyes heartbrokenly.
Fiona died a terrible death. How can I allow my daughter to marry our enemy's son?
He had sought revenge on Benjamin for the sake of Fiona.
He had also set Lionel up to sleep with Kimberly in the name of Victoria to break them up and stop
them from making more mistakes.
Nevertheless, reality had slapped him in the face.
Not only did Vicky not escape this ill-fated relationship, but she even got entangled with our enemy's
son. Worst of all, they even have a child. When I die, how am I supposed to explain to Fiona? How can
I bring myself to say everything?
Lionel strode up to Vincent and grabbed his shoulders. “What exactly happened back then?” he yelled
hoarsely.
