Chapter 457

A tad bit aggrieved, Bailey looked at him with teary eyes and pouty lips that could arouse anyone's

sympathy.

“You're being mean to me.”

Artemis took a deep breath to compose himself, unwilling to let the sympathy and heartache he felt for

the woman cloud his judgment. The veins on his forehead bulged as he put on a steely expression and

repeated, “What did you eat just now? Tell me.”

It was then Bailey knew she couldn't talk her way out of the situation any longer, for it must have struck

a nerve in the man, and it wouldn't be so easy to fool him.

“I-It's just a wonder drug to stabilize the embryo.”

Upon noticing how the man's expression became grimmer by the second, Bailey hurriedly added, “It

won't affect the baby at all...”

When she put it that way, Artemis' expression clouded over, causing Bailey to shut her mouth in fear.

This guy isn't worried about the baby, so why is he wearing such a gloomy expression? Could it be

that...

“I-It won't bring any harm to my body either. Calm down, I—”

“Tell me the truth,” demanded Artemis through gritted teeth.

Instantly, Bailey couldn't help but shudder and stammered a hasty explanation, “There might be some

side effects, but nothing's more important than keeping the baby safe. Don't worry, I'll be fine.”

As soon as she finished talking, the man in front of her pulled her into a tight embrace. He then lowered

his head and began kissing her lips.

It became clear as day that Artemis was incredibly tensed, for his lips were quivering slightly as he

kissed her.

I guess he must've been frightened.

“I'm fine.” Bailey reached out a hand to pat him on the back while comforting him, “I should do

everything I can to protect the baby. That's my responsibility, after all.”

In the next second, Artemis pushed her away and narrowed his eyes. “Are you sure it's the

abortifacient? Tell me everything you consumed earlier today.”

Bailey's brows knitted together as she sunk into deep thought. “I ate some food from the restaurant,

had a fruit juice from the convenience store, some coffee from the office, and... some fruits that one of

the secretaries sent over from their hometown.”

The man reached his hand out, intending to pick up the internal phone on the desk and order some

investigating to be done.

Seeing this, she instantly stopped him and shook her head. “Let's not alert our enemies. Instead, carry

me out of the office and act as if I'm suffering a miscarriage—”

“Don't talk nonsense.”

Uh... okay.

“Then just act as if I'm... in need of medical attention and head to Justin's medical base.”

Artemis frowned as he looked at the woman. “So, you mean to say...”

Curling the corner of her lips into a smile, Bailey explained, “Isn't a certain someone paying close

attention to the baby in my belly? If she thinks she's succeeded, won't she get too cocky and reveal her

true colors?”

Realization dawned upon him, and he carried her in his strong, sturdy arms. “All right. We'll do as you

say.”

Right after saying that, he stormed out of the CEO's office with a grim expression plastered on his

handsome countenance, all the while emanating an aura of fury.

“Mr. Luther, what happened to Mrs. Luther?”

The chief secretary was about to enter the CEO's office to report on the work progress when she saw

Artemis dashing out of the room with Bailey in his arms.

Upon noticing Bailey clutching her abdomen and the beads of cold sweat on her pale face, the chief

secretary instantly snapped back to her senses.

“I'll give the infirmary a call and have them make the preparations.”

“No need. I'll take her to Justin's medical base. In the meantime, find out everything Mrs. Luther ate,

drank, touched, and used today, as well as who she's met. I want every single detail.”

“Yes, of course.”

After watching Artemis get on the elevator, the chief secretary turned around, sweeping her gaze

across the employees who were curiously looking on. “What are you all looking at? Don't you know that

disaster is upon us? If anything happens to the child that Mrs. Luther's carrying, none of the employees

on this floor will be able to escape suspicion,” she roared.

Chloe ran out of the executive assistant's office and clung to the chief secretary's shoulder, asking,

“What happened to Ms. Bailey? She was fine when she left the executive assistant's office. How did it

happen so suddenly—”

The chief secretary studied her briefly before sneering, “You're Mrs. Luther's assistant. Shouldn't you

know what happened? Also, are you aware of the rules? Who're you calling Ms. Bailey? You're on the

top floor of Luther Group, so you should be addressing her as Mrs. Luther, do you understand?”

Chloe's hands clenched slowly into fists, though she still maintained a smile on her face.

Who does this woman think she is? She's nothing but an average person who graduated from a

prestigious university. What right does she have to bark orders at me? Does she not know I'm the

mayor's daughter? Chief secretary, huh? This position seems awesome. Tomorrow, I'll come with up a

plan to get this woman kicked out of Luther Group and take over her job.

“It's my fault for not taking good care of Ms. Bai— Mrs. Luther well enough. I'll find out what's the cause

of this incident, and I assure you I'll provide Mr. and Mrs. Luther with an explanation.”

“That won't be necessary.” The chief secretary walked past Chloe and strode toward the surveillance

room. “I'll investigate this myself. You can get back to your work.”

There was nothing Chloe could say in response to that.

As she looked at the chief secretary's slender silhouette, the hatred and scorn in her heart grew more

and more intense.

I have to think of a way to get rid of this woman for no other reason than the fact that she's one of

Bailey's supporters. That's right! I need a scapegoat for the abortifacient incident. I'll just pick her to

take the blame for me!

That evening, the news of Bailey's miscarriage spread from the medical base and became the

headlines for every single one of Hallsbay's media outlets.
