Chapter 453
In the study of Tarragon's branch was Yvette, who grabbed Daniel's wrist and asked anxiously, “Did you
help me contact the leader? What was he like? Did he agree to see me?”
Looking hesitant, he answered, “Ms. Sullivan, I really can't help you with this. I'll gladly do it if it was
something else, but the leader's whereabouts are not something we can control. I'm terribly sorry.”
Yvette's expression turned grim, and she gritted her teeth. “I want to know his exact words. Just tell
me.”
“Uh...”
“Tell me or I'll get the elders from the headquarters to remove you from your position.”
“H-He said you have n-no right to see him, and he won't change his mind because of you. He also
ordered me to release Ms. Shannon right away.”
Yvette's lips twitched, and surprise flashed past her eyes.
She never expected the leader to be so cruel and would not spare her dignity.
To be more precise, he did not spare her father's dignity.
Even Micah and Holden have to treat me with respect. How could the leader decline my request just
like that? He did not even bother showing me some respect.
“Give me his contact information. I'm going to contact him myself.”
Unfortunately, that put Daniel in a difficult spot. He suggested with caution, “Perhaps you can try asking
the headquarters' elders. They'll definitely have the leader's contact information. The leader and I
contact each other using a special code, and I can't share it. I hope you can understand, Ms. Sullivan.”
Understand?
Yvette's chest heaved as she panted in rage. She then pointed her finger at him, hissing, “Even you are
disrespecting me now, huh? Have you forgotten what my identity is in Tarragon? My father might not be

With a thud, Daniel fell to his knees and gave himself a tight slap.
Of course, he would not give her the code, for disobeying the leader would bring worse punishments
than offending her.
“Wow. Isn't it lively here? Lord Euchler, what mistake did you make that brought you to your knees?
Have you forgotten who you are? The person in charge of Tarragon's branch only kneels before the
leader.”
It was Micah, who was entering the room at the same time.
He swept his gaze over Daniel before glancing at Yvette with a half-smile. “How could you make him
kneel before you? Are you coveting the leader's position?”
Yvette froze. Her face paled as her voice trembled. “N-No, no. I never thought of that, nor do I have the
desire. Micah, I just wanted to see the leader and talk to him about some matters. Can you help me
arrange a time for him to meet me?”
A smile formed on Micah's lips as he shook his head. “I'm afraid I have to say no because even I don't
have the chance to meet him.”
With that, he lowered his gaze to Daniel, who was still trembling, and continued, “Didn't the leader
order you to release Ms. Shannon? Take me to Prudent Hall now.”
“Um...” Daniel could not help but glance at Yvette, looking conflicted.
Noting that, Micah shot Daniel a glare and yelled, “What now? Are you going to disobey the leader's
words?”
“No, no, no.” Daniel got to his feet hastily and made a gesture for Micah to follow him before leaving the
study first.
Meanwhile, Micah shot Yvette a look while saying casually, “Shannon wanted to kill you because she
had some misunderstanding toward you. Thankfully, you're unharmed. Please forgive her. After all, you
two were like sisters who grew up together.”
Sisters?
Yvette scoffed inwardly.
The truth was that Shannon only wanted to kill Yvette because she knew the latter was the one behind
everything.
There was no longer any friendship between them. Instead, they had become mortal enemies, and
death was the only way to put an end to the situation. One of them had to die.
“Micah, are you misunderstanding something? I never thought of pushing Shannon to her death, but it's
undeniable that she harmed Lord Euchler's daughter. She has to be punished, right? How else am I
supposed to explain this to the others?”
Micah smirked. “Really? Well, I hope that's what you really think. All right. I'll go get Shannon out of
prison now. You two should talk things out when you're free. Who knows? It could resolve the
misunderstanding.”
Yvette squeezed the hem of her dress as hostility flooded her gaze.
You're wrong, Micah. There's no misunderstanding between Shannon and me. It's a blood feud, one
that'll never be resolved.
In the meantime, Shannon sat on the stone bench in the dungeon with her head hung low, looking
weak.
Her clothes were stained with blood. Clearly, she was punished.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open, and in walked Micah.
The moment the stench of blood wafted toward him, he frowned instinctively.
Anyone who ended up in Prudent Hall would be given some sort of punishment. However, Micah could
feel his heart clench, albeit knowing the rules.
To be precise, he was heartbroken.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmNonetheless, he strode over and squatted down to hold her slender hands. “There's always hope as
long as you're alive. It's not that I don't believe you, but we can't do anything to Yvette until we find
evidence. It's a logic your brother and I know very well. So, even if we know she did it, we can't take
action yet. Attacking her is like starting a war with the forces backing her. It'll spark a blood bath. Do
you understand what I'm saying?” he uttered hoarsely.
As Shannon moved her stiff body, she felt a piercing pain coursing through her limbs as blood gurgled
in her abdomen.
She tried to suppress the blood from surging up to her throat. Alas, she failed and ended up spitting a
mouthful of blood on Micah's face.
His expression turned gloomy instantly as the warm liquid trickled down his face like a red, toxic potion.
He could not help but shudder as he pulled Shannon into his embrace.
To his surprise, Shannon smiled indifferently and said with a hoarse voice, “Sorry for dirtying your face.”
Micah gazed at her with a pained look in his eyes. She has already lost the ability to have emotions. Is
she losing the ability to feel pain now? How is she still looking so calm when she has been tortured so
terribly?
“Shanny—”
After slowly placing her index finger on his lips, Shannon muttered intermittently, “I stayed alive so I can
kill the person who killed my son. Once I've solved the blood feud, I'll meet Eugene in heaven. Can you
not stop me when the time comes?”
Splash.
A tear rolled down from the corner of Micah's eyes and fell on Shannon's pale face, forming a sad yet
beautiful pattern on her face.
“All right. I'll go with you and protect him in heaven.”
His words made Shannon smile. Right then, her head drooped to the side, and she fainted.
Perhaps it's for the best. She bears too much sin, and to continue living in the world will only fill her with
more resentment. Dying could relieve her of all the hurt she experienced.
“Shanny!”
Micah's terrified scream echoed in the empty cell.
