Chapter 384
The hatred in Shannon's eyes wasn't easing up because she wasn't fazed by his explanation. I'll never
trust anyone in this world again. My heart died when Eugene stopped breathing. I'll treat those two
stabs as my revenge, and I'll never cross paths with this man again.
“Shanny...”
Shannon slowly let go of the handle of the knife before turning around and walking into the house, her
movements stiff like a mindless puppet.
At that point, she had his blood all over her hand. With every step she took, a droplet of blood would
drip onto the floor, leaving behind a bloody trail that made for a ghastly sight.
Micah was scared.
He didn't dare to touch her because he was afraid that she would completely lose her rationale.
However, he couldn't bear to watch her continue living her life as if she was a soulless person either.
Hence, he suddenly reached out to grab her arm. “Shanny, I really didn't send anyone to harm our son.
Please believe me. Give me some time, and I'll find out who's behind it. I'll avenge our son.”
Shannon's eyes lit up slightly when she heard him talking about taking revenge.
Before Micah arrived, Bailey had already come to look for her to tell her about the situation. Hence, she
knew he wasn't at fault for Eugene's death.
But so what? My son is already dead. He's dead! Even if Micah didn't orchestrate it, he was still
involved. A tragedy happened, and there's nothing anyone can do to reverse it.
Yet, her numb heart ached once again when she heard him talking about avenging her son.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThat's right. My son suffered a horrible death, and I'm supposed to avenge him.
Holding that thought, she gradually turned around and glared at him. “What if that woman is
responsible for my son's death? Will you still avenge him?” she roared.
Micah narrowed his eyes slightly and kept mum in response.
The woman Shannon was talking about was Yvette Sullivan. She was the daughter of the previous
head of Tarragon.
Seeing that he had gone silent, Shannon couldn't help but laugh mockingly. “You can't touch her, can
you? Oh wait. Now you can. However, her father is your mentor, and he died saving your life. When he
entrusted her life to you back then, you swore you wouldn't do anything to her, no matter how grave her
mistakes are.”
Micah pursed his lips and stayed silent for a while before uttering through clenched teeth, “We haven't
gotten to the bottom of it, so we can't be sure it's Yve.”
Upon hearing that, Shannon started chuckling. As she did so, beads of tears rolled down her cheeks.
“Micah, you were just joking when you mentioned taking revenge, weren't you?”
With that, she abruptly shook his hand off her and pointed at the door. “This is the end of us! I don't
want to see you ever again. Leave!” she shouted.
Perhaps due to excessive blood loss, Micah's face went pale, and he looked like he was on the verge
of collapsing. “I promise you this. If Yvette truly is responsible for our son's death, I'll seek justice.”
Shannon staggered a few steps back and slumped onto the couch. Covering her face with one hand,
she began to weep softly. Why is fate toying with us? Why is God putting so much pain into our lives? I
have but one simple wish. I just want to live peacefully in a city with my son. It's such a simple wish, yet
it's never going to happen.
Micah stumbled toward her and squatted down right in front of her. While rubbing the corners of her
eyes, he said, “I'm sorry. As a father, I failed. I've hurt you and killed your hopes. I don't wish for your
forgiveness, but I hope you can let go of the hatred and start a new life. Even if I'm not the man you
spend the rest of your life with, I would still be happy.”
Before Micah learned about her whereabouts, he had vowed to keep her by his side once he found her.
Be that as it may, he didn't have the courage to do so after finding out what she had gone through. As
long as she can walk out of the pain, I will let her go. I didn't understand love back then, so I ended up
hurting her. Now that I do, I know how agonizing heartbreaks can be.
“S-Shanny, I would like to see our son. M-May I know where his final resting place is?” Micah asked
cautiously to prevent provoking her.
Turning away slightly, she answered coldly, “Mount Willow Cemetery, Hallsbay.”
Meanwhile, in the Shurmer residence, Zoey was bawling in Steven's embrace.
Steven lifted his gaze and looked at his wife, who was sitting on the couch.
In response, Waverly turned away helplessly.
Seeing that, Steven sighed and patted Zoey's back to comfort her. “He has already found a woman he
loves, and that woman gave him three children. No one in the world can tear them apart. There's no
use in crying your eyes out now. Zozo, let him go, okay? Let's return to Lostaria. I'll find a few young
men for you, and I'm sure they'll be as impressive as Artemis.”
Hearing that, Zoey cried even harder. “B-But I only want to marry Artemis. I don't want anybody else
but him. Help me, Dad. Please help me, okay?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmSteven furrowed his brows and replied sternly, “You can't expect me to just ruin someone's relationship,
can you? Bailey has contributed a lot to the medical world. I can't possibly let my daughter ruin her
marriage.”
Those words sent a shiver down Zoey's spine. Did I hear him right? Did Dad just defend Bailey? Why is
he protecting that b*tch?
Right then, Zeke walked in and greeted Steven before saying flatly to Zoey, “Shirley is going back to
Lostaria in a few days. Follow her back and recompose yourself. Don't lose your mind over a man that
doesn't belong to you.”
“I'm not going back.” Zoey raised her voice and retorted, “You guys are all staying in Hallsbay. Why
should I go back to Lostaria on my own?”
“You don't have a choice. I—”
Steven interrupted Zeke's speech by raising his palm all of a sudden. He then lowered his head to look
at Zoey and said, “If you don't want to go back, it's fine. However, you must promise me you'll stop
pestering Artemis. I don't want to hear any rumors about you again.”
With that, he turned toward Zeke and said, “Mr. Gourd called and told me you guys aren't getting any
younger, so it's about time to talk about marriage. Since Shirley is in the Shurmer residence, I'll look for
her later to get her opinion. If she's okay with it, we'll go over to propose a marriage.”
Zeke was stupefied.
After keeping silent for a while, Zeke uttered casually, “There's no hurry. We'll see how things go in a
few years. If Shirley is so eager to be married, get her to look for someone else to marry.”
“You brat!” Steven glared at him and scolded, “What are you talking about? Shirley has been waiting for
you for years. It's about time for you to seal your relationship with her.”
Zoey was listening to the conversation between Steven and Zeke, and she couldn't help but chime in,
“Dad, Zeke has fallen for someone else.”
