Chapter 381
Scarlett took a few steps back and stared at Tamara with teary eyes.
“What if she makes unreasonable demands, Mom? Are you going to just agree to them?” she sobbed.
“No price is too high as long as it'll save your brother, and your marriage is no exception,” Tamara
muttered through clenched teeth.
Scarlett slumped weakly against the chair as the bad feeling in her gut intensified.
Mom cares more about Raiden because he's the only son in the family. I will never be treated equally
simply because I'm a daughter.
Veronique was at the medical base when she got the call from the military general hospital.
Instead of responding immediately after obtaining all the information regarding the situation, she ended
the call and contacted Bailey.
“Hey, Bay! Did you know that Raiden got shot?”
Bailey was unaware of it, so she was utterly shocked when she heard that.
What? Raiden was shot? That doesn't make any sense! Who would dare assassinate him here in
Chanaea? Even if someone was crazy enough to attempt it, who could possibly break through his lines
of defense?
“Tell me what happened in detail.”
“The director of the general hospital told me that Raiden was attacked and shot. The bullet is currently
stuck in his chest near his heart. The surgery would be extremely risky, with only a twenty-percent
chance of success. He wants me to go help perform the surgery,” Veronique replied.
Bailey tightened her grip on the phone as she slowly understood what was going on.
Wait a minute. Is this that man's way of forcing the Fletcher family to agree to the bone marrow
donation? Isn't this a little too much? How will I ever return the favor? It's true that I was the one who
asked Raiden for help, but he didn't have to go this far! What he did was extremely dangerous! He
could very well end up dead if things don't go according to plan! Oh, well... What's done is done, so
there's no point in worrying about that now. Raiden risked his life to provide us with this opportunity, so
we can't let it go to waste!
“Listen to me, Vero. You must be the one to perform the surgery for Raiden. However, you need to
force the Fletchers to sign the bone marrow donation agreement before you operate on him.”
Veronique was shocked when she heard that. “Bay, are you sure it's appropriate to take advantage of
them like that?”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtBailey let out a wry chuckle. “Do you really think Raiden was attacked?”
Scarlett took a few steps back and stared at Tamara with teary eyes.
It wasn't long before Veronique caught on and realized what she meant. “W-What? Are you saying he
—”
“We don't have time for this, Vero. Hurry up and do as I say! We can't let Raiden's sacrifice be in vain!”
“But...”
“Think about Zephyr, Vero. He's running out time!”
Veronique tightened her grip on the phone. “Thank you, Bay. I know Mr. Raiden is only doing this
because of you. I really ought to be thanking you for this.”
“All right, you can save that sentimental talk for later. Now, go to the hospital and get that bone marrow
donation agreement!”
“Okay!”
Bailey stared blankly out the window after ending the call.
Why did Raiden have to go that far for me? How will I ever repay him?
“What's wrong?” Artemis' voice rang out from behind her.
Bailey turned around and flashed him a wry smile. “I think I'm going to ruin yet another man's future.”
Artemis arched an eyebrow at her. “Tell me what happened.”
“Raiden did the same thing you did. He shot himself in the heart in order to force the Fletcher family
into agreeing to the bone marrow donation. I will owe him an insanely huge favor if this plan of his
works, but I don't know how I'll be able to repay him.”
Artemis narrowed his eyes as his expression grew solemn.
Oh? Raiden cares so deeply about Bailey that he's willing to risk his life for her? Well, he certainly
exceeded my expectations this time, I'll give him that!
“Don't worry; I'll help you out. The Fletcher family wishes to rise to the top, so I'll lend them a hand
when the time comes. That should be enough for you to repay him.”
Bailey frowned when she heard that.
One of Artemis' principles is to never get involved in politics, and yet, he's going to break that principle
for me? If the Luther family and the Fletcher family team up, they'll be making tons of enemies in
politics. That can't be good for Luther Group.
As though he had figured out her concerns, Artemis hugged her and gave her a pinch on the cheek.
“You and I are one. We're supposed to help each other out in times of need. If you think you're causing
me problems, then that means you don't see me as your man.”
Bailey giggled in amusement as she went on her tiptoes to kiss him on the lips. “Look at you, running
your mouth when I haven't even said anything! You're my man, so it only makes sense for me to come
to you for help!”
It wosn't long before Veronique cought on ond reolized whot she meont. “W-Whot? Are you soying he

“We don't hove time for this, Vero. Hurry up ond do os I soy! We con't let Roiden's socrifice be in voin!”
“But...”
“Think obout Zephyr, Vero. He's running out time!”
Veronique tightened her grip on the phone. “Thonk you, Boy. I know Mr. Roiden is only doing this

“All right, you con sove thot sentimentol tolk for loter. Now, go to the hospitol ond get thot bone morrow

“Okoy!”
Boiley stored blonkly out the window ofter ending the coll.
Why did Roiden hove to go thot for for me? How will I ever repoy him?
“Whot's wrong?” Artemis' voice rong out from behind her.
Boiley turned oround ond floshed him o wry smile. “I think I'm going to ruin yet onother mon's future.”
Artemis orched on eyebrow ot her. “Tell me whot hoppened.”
“Roiden did the some thing you did. He shot himself in the heort in order to force the Fletcher fomily
into ogreeing to the bone morrow donotion. I will owe him on insonely huge fovor if this plon of his
works, but I don't know how I'll be oble to repoy him.”
Artemis norrowed his eyes os his expression grew solemn.
Oh? Roiden cores so deeply obout Boiley thot he's willing to risk his life for her? Well, he certoinly
exceeded my expectotions this time, I'll give him thot!
“Don't worry; I'll help you out. The Fletcher fomily wishes to rise to the top, so I'll lend them o hond

Boiley frowned when she heord thot.
One of Artemis' principles is to never get involved in politics, ond yet, he's going to breok thot principle
for me? If the Luther fomily ond the Fletcher fomily teom up, they'll be moking tons of enemies in
politics. Thot con't be good for Luther Group.
As though he hod figured out her concerns, Artemis hugged her ond gove her o pinch on the cheek.

Boiley giggled in omusement os she went on her tiptoes to kiss him on the lips. “Look ot you, running
your mouth when I hoven't even soid onything! You're my mon, so it only mokes sense for me to come
to you for help!”
Artemis tightened his hug on her body. “I don't want you to feel like you're being a burden to me. Even
if you are, I'm capable of carrying that burden, so just relax and enjoy the finer things in life.”
Meanwhile, Veronique saw Tamara and Scarlett sitting on the couch when she entered the hospital
director's office.
She simply shot them a glance before greeting the hospital director with a smile, “Dr. Wallace, there's
something I'd like to discuss with Mrs. Fletcher in private. Would you mind stepping outside for a bit?”
The hospital director cleared his throat awkwardly and said with a smile, “Of course! Doctors should
indeed have a chat with the patient's family members in private. I'll step outside to give you all some
privacy, but please don't take too long. Mr. Raiden's life is on the line here.”
“Got it.”
Tamara waited until the hospital director left the office before saying, “Let me guess, you want us to
cancel the arranged marriage, right? Fine, I'll agree to that request, so hurry up and perform the
surgery for my son!”
Veronique arched an eyebrow at her in amusement.
Wow, she sure is full of herself! Does she think it'd be that simple? What a joke! I wasn't expecting her
to be this naïve!
“Justin and I are already a legally married couple, Mrs. Fletcher. Why would I be concerned about all
that?”
“You...”
Tamara was about to say something when Scarlett cut her off, “It is an honor for you to perform surgery
on my brother! You should be grateful, Veronique!”
Veronique shrugged. “Is that so? Sorry, but I have no need for such honor. If you two aren't sincere
about asking for my help, then I'll be going now. Have a nice day!”
With that said, she turned around and started walking toward the door.
Oh no! She's leaving! Raiden is still in critical condition, and it's getting worse with each passing
second! I have to do something, or he might die!
Feeling anxious and desperate, Tamara leaped to her feet and hissed through clenched teeth, “Why
don't you just tell us what you want, Ms. Revelle? I will grant any of your requests as long as our family
is able to!”
With a smile on her face, Veronique turned around and looked her in the eye as she replied, “I want
Ms. Fletcher to sign the bone marrow donation agreement.”
