Chapter 324
Zoey patted the back of Scarlett's hand and reassured, “Don't worry, Ms. Fletcher. I have given one of
the contestants the source code you sent me.”
She pointed at a man in green on the stage and continued, “That's the chief programmer of Wave
Corporation, a company from Anglandur. He was the one who wrote the source code of the 4G
internet. No one will doubt him if he succeeds with the source code for 5G today.”
A pleased smile crept across Scarlett's face. “That's smart of you. I've asked someone from the
Department of Justice to wait outside. Once Scarlett loses and gets accused of plagiarism, she will be
arrested immediately.”
Zoey flashed her a thumbs-up. “You indeed live up to your position as the eldest daughter of the
Fletcher family from Jadeborough. I admire your courage and boldness.”
Scarlett snickered and walked toward her seat.
After watching Scarlett leave, Zoey turned to Shirley and arched her brow. “Say, what are the odds of
her succeeding?”
Shirley shook her head. “If she really succeeds, that can only prove that Bailey is a weakling.”
Zoey burst into laughter at that. “If she fails, she will hate Bailey even more. It's not yet time to use
Scarlett. She needs to learn her lessons first.”
In no time, the host announced the start of the competition.
The crowd's chatter stopped abruptly, and only the sound of typing could be heard in the huge
convention center.
The competition was being broadcasted live so the entire world could watch the programmers'
incredible performance.
Among the audience, two small figures were sitting together while whispering in each other's ears.
“Will Bailey really succeed?” Maxton wondered out loud.
Shooting him a glance, Zayron said calmly, “If she can't succeed, then no one else in this world can.”
“That's right,” Susan chimed in from the side. “If Bailey fails, then you can quit dreaming about using
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt5G phones.”
“Hey, watch your attitude. I'm the eldest among us. You have to show me respect, got it?”
Susan pursed her lips and retorted, “You'll forever be the second eldest unless you're not Bay's child.”
Her words rendered Zayron speechless. I've spoiled her all these years for nothing.
Susan scanned the place. Upon seeing Artemis, she flashed him a grin.
Yet at the sight of Edmund, she slid down her chair in elation and ran toward the man.
When Artemis noticed that, the smile on his face faded. As his expression darkened, the temperature
around him seemed to have dropped as well.
Damn it. Whenever Edmund is around, I'm practically a nobody. He has Bailey and Susan wrapped
around his finger!
While watching the “father-daughter” duo embrace each other, Artemis clenched his jaw. He couldn't
help but recall the resignation letter again.
She clearly wants to elope with another man while taking my child with her!
Suddenly, a beep sounded, followed by the host's announcement.
“A contestant has submitted his code.”
The audience gasped in shock.
“Who is it? Is it Bailey?”
“I don't think so.”
“Look at the big screen. It's Jason, the chief programmer of Wave Corporation. He once wrote the
source code for 4G internet.”
“Can we actually trust Bailey? She's representing the entire Chanaea. If she loses, we'll lose the
opportunity to be the first to possess the core technology.”
Beep.
“Two contestants have submitted their codes.”
The host's voice rang out again as another male contestant finished his work.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
“Fifteen contestants have submitted their codes.”
To the Chanaeans' dismay, Bailey was not among them.
“We're doomed. Don't tell me she can't come up with the code.”
“That won't happen. Bailey is incredible. She even developed an anti-cancer medicine. I'm sure she
can do it!”
“You can't be certain about that. Look at her. She seems to have no intention of submitting her work!
Could it be that she can't figure it out?”
Beep.
“Nineteen contestants have submitted their codes.”
Instantly, the Chanaeans burst into an uproar.
“I knew it. Women are not as clever as men when it comes to computers. It was a mistake to make
Bailey join the competition!”
“I don't believe she will lose. Just give her some more time. This competition is not about speed
anyway. What matters is the completion of the work.”
“That's right. You bashers should stop mocking your fellow people. What good will it do to us if Bailey
loses?”
“Exactly! You bashers should shut up before we make you regret it!”
Beep.
“The last contestant has submitted her code.”
Under the watchful gazes of the audience, Bailey finally turned in her work.
“Now, it's time to let the system verify the codes. The contestant whose code decodes the most
information will be the winner.”
Right away, the huge screen on the stage started flashing as rows and rows of text scrolled up rapidly.
“The first contestant, Jason, decoded eighty percent of the information.”
Everyone was shocked to hear that.
“What? Eighty percent? There's no point in checking the other codes anymore. Experts have been
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmstudying the 5G source code for so many years, yet they only managed to decode less than forty
percent of it. Now, Jason decoded eighty percent of the code at once. How will the other contestants
match up to that?”
“Jason is indeed a veteran. He's so outstanding.”
“I don't think there's a need to check the codes of the other contestants. He got eighty percent! Who
can actually surpass that?”
“It seems like Anglandur will be taking home the core technology of 5G again this time.”
“No. I refuse to accept our defeat until Bailey's results come out.”
While the crowd engaged in a heated discussion, many contestants on the stage shook their heads
with bitter smiles.
Jason's achievement was too remarkable for them to overcome.
“I would like to withdraw from the competition.”
“I would also like to withdraw from the competition.”
“Same goes for me.”
“Me too.”
Since they would only be bringing shame to themselves by staying in the game, they admitted defeat
instead.
In an instant, eighteen contestants backed out, leaving only Bailey to compete with Jason.
“Ms. Jefferson, would you like to remain in the competition?” the host asked tentatively.
Bailey raised her brow and responded with a question, “If I lose, will you cut off my arm?”
“Huh?” The host was dumbfounded for a moment. Upon coming back to his senses, he hurriedly shook
his head and assured, “Of course not. There are no punishments in this competition.”
Bailey shrugged casually and said, “Then we're good. Why would I back out? It's not like anything bad
will happen if I lose. Who knows? Maybe I'll score a huge victory.”
As Bailey was the last to finish, she would indeed be scoring a huge victory if she won against Jason,
who finished first.
Just then, Jason turned his head to glance at her. His eyes were full of mockery as he said, “There's a
saying in your country that goes, 'A wise man adapts himself to circumstances.' Ms. Jefferson, I think
you should learn from your ancestors. If you act too rashly, you'll embarrass yourself. I'm afraid it'll be
difficult for you to surpass my score.”
