Unfortunately, while Zyon’s men were halfway through conducting a search in the
mountain at the back of the Fairchild residence, the cops arrived.
They instantly locked down the area. Zyon’s men had no choice but to retreat since they
could not confront the cops.
Nonetheless, Zyon’s men did not return empty-handed. They found a few emerald beads
and handed them to Zyon.
Zyon let out a mirthless laugh while rotating the beads repeatedly in his palm.
He turned to Yulissa and said, “Good thing you knew the lunatic had a bracelet. They
nearly fooled me with these emerald beads.”
“This must be Louis’ work. He must have placed these beads because he knew we would
destroy the evidence.” Yulissa sounded worried, “I’m afraid he’ll foil our plan.”
Zyon snorted. “Once I take over Xavier’s position, I’ll kick Louis out of Fairchild
Corporation. Let’s see how he can compete with me once he’s out of the picture! But we
won’t be able to find out if the bracelet has Kylie’s fingerprints anymore. I have to talk to
Hamish and get him to convince Kylie to take the blame.”
“Would he agree, though?” Yulissa asked.
Zyon responded with a smirk. “Hamish had sold off his wife in his younger days, and he
had also sold off his daughter at midlife. He’ll do anything to safeguard his interest. By the
way, let’s not meet up too frequently. Meet me when this issue has subsided.”
“Got it.” Yulissa clenched her fists. What makes him think I want to be there? I swear I’ll
kill him when the time is right!
As he was about to leave, the housekeeper came in with a parcel. “You have a package,
Mr. Fairchild. The deliveryman from Intra-City Express Service said the sender requested
you to open the parcel immediately.”
“Who on earth has the audacity to be so demanding?” The request aroused Zyon’s
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtcuriosity, even though he was about to leave the house.
He pointed at the table. “Put it there. Open it up.”
The housekeeper immediately unwrapped the parcel.
The parcel was a cardboard box, nothing extraordinary, and it was stuffed with foam
peanuts.
After going through the package for a while, the housekeeper found a plastic bag that was
as large as a child’s palm.
“Mr. Fairchild, this is the only thing found in the box.” The housekeeper then passed the
plastic bag to Zyon.
After taking over the item and glancing at it, Zyon froze for a moment. He immediately
asked, “Where’s the deliveryman?”
“He left…” the housekeeper answered sheepishly. Zyon’s agitated reaction made her feel
she had done something wrong.
“What are you waiting for? Go and get him right now!”
He wanted to get the deliveryman because the plastic bag contained one of the beads of
the bracelet he had been hunting for.
The bead, stained with soil, was carved with the letter “W.” It must be the bracelet Winnie
lost when she was shoved down the mountain. But who? Who delivered this bracelet to
me?
While all sorts of questions raced through Zyon’s mind when the housekeeper left, the
landline phone on his coffee table started ringing.
The landline phone in his house was nothing more than a decoration as people rarely
called the number. Yet, at that moment, the phone rang unexpectedly.
Zyon could not help but feel eerie.
After a short hesitation, he picked up the call. “Who are you? Are you the one who sent me
the parcel?”
“That’s right, Mr. Fairchild. You’re a smart man.” An indifferent voice emerged from the
other end of the phone.
Clearly, the person’s voice was altered through a voice changer. Zyon knitted his brows.
“Who on earth are you? Tell me your name!”
The person responded with a mirthless laugh. “You don’t have to worry about my identity.
The important thing is, I’ve delivered something useful to you. You have a great future
ahead, but you’re involved in too many homicides. You wouldn’t want to risk putting your
future at stake all because of a stupid woman, right?”
“Who are you? How do you know all these?” Zyon exclaimed.
“Listen carefully, Zyon Fairchild. Think of a way to place the bead near where Kylie is.
Once the cops notice she has the bead, they’ll identify her as the main suspect of the
murder. When that happens, you’ll be able to clear your name.”
“Who the heck are you?” Zyon could not help but shudder.
Not only did that mysterious person know Zyon’s every move, but he also seemed to know
what was on the latter’s mind.
Feeling insecure, Zyon vowed to find out the person’s identity.
Yet, the caller hung up on him after making those remarks.
Zyon put down the phone and ordered his men to investigate the number, but they soon
found out it was a fake online number. Even the deliveryman had vanished off the face of
the earth.
Meanwhile, at the condominium at Aqua Moana, Winnie deleted the fake online number
after ending the call with Zyon.
She believed Zyon and Yulissa would frame Kylie as the scapegoat.
Winnie did not do this to help Zyon and Yulissa devise an escape plan. She was merely
cooperating with Narcotics Enforcement Department to set up a bigger trap.
On the other hand, Kylie was not all innocent either because she had attempted murder

cops.
Soon, the cops found traces of evidence that proved Winnie was shoved down the
mountain at the back of the Fairchild residence.
Thanks to the evidence, the footage of Winnie roaming around the Fairchild residence and
leaving the residence in a car was disregarded.
Nonetheless, the cops spotted a woman who bore an uncanny resemblance to Winne in
the video. That prompted them to carry out investigations on the suspicious figure.
From the footage, the cops noticed the woman was wearing a pair of limited-edition shoes.
Anyone who purchased the limited edition would need to have their names registered, so
the cops reached out to the store and found out that the buyer was Kylie.
The truth was finally revealed.
On the night of the incident, Kylie murdered Winnie and pushed her down the mountain.
She then put on an oversized coat and a cap to pretend to be Winnie and later faked her
disappearance.
Moreover, the cops had also found a bead from Winnie’s bracelet in Kylie’s closet. There
was no way she could deny all the evidence.
Kylie knew the cops were coming after her and would press charges against her, and she
would eventually be put behind bars.
The first thought that crossed her mind was to escape from Avenport and leave Chanaea.
There was nothing the authorities could do with her once she fled the country.
Yet, her biological father, Hamish, stopped her from leaving because he had struck a deal
with Zyon and agreed to make her daughter a scapegoat. “Kylie, listen to me. Turn
yourself in and explain everything to the cops. Since Winnie is not dead, you’ll only be
charged with attempted murder. Besides, you’ll also get to plead for a lower sentence, and
I’m sure the judge will reduce your jail time.”
“The lawyer I spoke to said you’ll at most serve two to three years in jail. If you’re well-
behaved, I might be able to pull some strings and get you out in a year,” he explained
further.
