“Are you kidding me? Jipsdale is the biggest drug production site in all of the continent!
The situation there is extremely complicated. What makes you think I have the ability to
go there and rescue someone?”
Xavier looked at Yulissa. Disappointment, confusion, and sorrow swirled in his gaze.
“If you had reported it to the police when Professor White had gotten into trouble five
years ago, perhaps there’s still a chance of rescuing him from within the country. Now that
five years have passed, how are the police going to re-investigate the case where
Professor White faked his death? If the police can’t use the case as a breakthrough, they
won’t have the power to go out of the country to arrest the culprit. Do you understand
that this is a huge issue?” he said.
Yulissa slumped onto the floor. Desolation was written all over her face as tears rolled
down her cheeks uncontrollably.
“I do. I know. It was me who was naïve five years ago. I was too hasty, but there’s nothing
that can be done now. Everything’s set in stone. If it weren’t because Zyon wanted to use
me to harm you, I would most likely still be trapped there without any means to escape.”
With tears in her eyes, Yulissa raised her head to look at Xavier. She then continued, “He
wanted to destroy your reputation, so he found me and asked me to get close to you and
find a way to get you addicted to drugs. I didn’t want to, I really didn’t, but I didn’t want to
stay in that cage any longer either. I wanted to escape. Xavier, I beg you. Can you please
forgive me?”
“Forgive you?” Xavier thought he had heard the joke of the century. “Why don’t you try
putting yourself in my shoes? If you were me, would you have forgiven yourself? You said
you had no choice and that you were forced. Then, would you have forgiven the one who
got you addicted to drugs? Can you forgive him? Can you forgive Zyon?”
“No! No, I won’t!” Hatred filled Yulissa’s heart at the mention of Zyon. “I will never forgive
him. Even if he kneels in front of me and begs, I will still not forgive him! I want to kill him!
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtI want him dead!”
All of a sudden, Yulissa wiped her tears dry and sat up straight.
“I don’t blame you if you don’t forgive me, and I can also understand if you can’t help
Grandpa. However, I now have only one request to ask from you. I beg you. Let us join
forces and deal with Zyon. I want him to suffer a fate worse than death!”
Xavier remained silent and merely looked at her.
What happened in the past five years that made her hate Zyon so much? Is she telling me
the truth now, or is this all an act?
All at once, multiple questions rose in Xavier’s heart.
Those few seconds of silence felt like an eternity to Yulissa. Nonetheless, she kept her
eyes on Xavier, anxious for an answer.
Finally, the man spoke. “Sure. I accept your suggestion.”
Yulissa breathed a sigh of relief. “Then from now on, we’re considered allies.”
Xavier’s lips curled into a half smile. He looked as though he was mocking her.
“Whatever you say.”
There was no way he would become allies with someone who tried to kill himself and
Winnie. Yulissa might as well be dreaming.
“If you want Zyon to suffer a fate worse than death, it’s simple. You just need to lock him
up in jail for eternity so he would be laboring and bullied for the rest of his life,” Xavier
began. “Ever since young, he has lived a spoilt and luxurious life without any worries. He
wouldn’t last a day in jail.”
After a brief pause, he continued, “However, even though he had tried to kill me multiple
times, he can only be charged with attempted murder since I’m still alive. This charge
alone will not be enough for a lifelong sentence in jail. Therefore, he needs to be charged
for selling and smuggling drugs as well. To do that, you would need to provide hard
evidence. Can you do that?”
“I can!” Yulissa answered confidently. “Even though it’ll be very difficult, I can think of a
way to intervene in his business. Give me some time and I’ll be able to figure out the
trading spots and shipping routes he has within the country.”
“Do so as quickly as possible. I do not want to wait that long.” Xavier had promised Winnie
that he would openly return to her side as soon as Zyon was dealt with.
“Also,” Xavier added, “you are to stay here for the next few days. You’re not allowed to go
anywhere else. I’ll get someone to fetch you some daily necessities.”
“What are you saying?” Yulissa felt something amiss. “Are you locking me in? Do you still
not trust me?”
Before Xavier could even open his mouth, Josiah snapped, “Who knows whether or not
you’ll spill everything to Zyon the moment we let you out!”
“I won’t! Have I not been clear enough? I want to kill him! I’ve even shown you guys the
video that I risked my life to record. Is that not enough to prove my allegiance? I’m now
your ally!”
“Even if we’re allies, don’t you think you should still give me a few days to figure out your
intentions?” As he was speaking, Xavier rolled his wheelchair to Josiah’s side.
Following suit, he fished out a packet of white powder from Josiah’s pocket and tossed it at
Yulissa.
Yulissa looked as though she had found a treasure. She ripped the plastic packaging open
excitedly.
Josiah turned to Xavier with a frown before lowering his voice to a whisper. “Why did you
give her that?”
Xavier kept quiet. Only after leading Josiah out of the room and out of earshot did he
answer, “She needs to go back to Zyon’s side as a spy. We can’t ask her to blow her cover,
now, can we?”
“All right.” Josiah shrugged. “I am now a hundred percent sure that you truly no longer
have even a tiny bit of feelings for her. Aren’t you even the least curious about what has
happened to her in the past five years that caused her to become like this?”
Xavier paused for a moment before answering, “I’m more curious as to what kind of life
that Dumbo living in my house has lived for the past five years.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“All right.” The words seemed to have slipped out of Josiah’s tongue. “I’m quite curious
too.”
Once he had finished speaking, he suddenly realized how weird he sounded and quickly
changed the subject.
“Where are you going now? Aqua Moana?” he asked.
Xavier’s brows drew closer to each other. “No, I’m staying here. I’m still wary of Yulissa.
You’re staying here too.”
“Huh?” Josiah widened his eyes in disbelief.
Xavier raised his arm and patted Josiah’s shoulder. “If Dumbo accidentally finds out about
the situation and the fact that I’m living in the same building as Yulissa, I’m gonna have to
need a witness.”
Josiah groaned. “I must have owed you two in my past life. Whatever, I’m gonna go
shower in one of the rooms. Don’t contact me unless it’s urgent!”
Xavier tossed another glance at the room Yulissa was in before wheeling himself back to
the master bedroom.
He had not checked his phone for quite a few hours. After he closed the door behind him,
he immediately started reading the incoming messages.
Winnie’s contact had been pinned on top of the chat. When Xavier switched on his phone,
her message was the first one he saw.
Her last message was sent two hours ago, asking if he had gone home.
The sight of her message made Xavier’s heart warm and fuzzy.
Even though it had been more than two hours, he was eager to send her a reply.
However, he did not want to tell her that he had gotten into a car accident with Yulissa.
Thus, he fabricated a lie.
Xavier: Yep, I’m home. I’ve fallen asleep in the car. Just woke up.
