Chapter 931 Not Butt In Anymore

As soon as Nicole stepped into the Gardner Residence, she was greeted by the sight of Benedict and Hayden having

fun together.

However, the lively atmosphere in the hall immediately fell quiet because of her arrival.

She awkwardly scratched her nose and softly called out to her son. "Hayden."

Seeing his mother, the boy quickly tumbled off of Benedict's lap and trotted in Nicole's direction before he launched

himself at the leg of her pants. He was grinning when he lifted his head and complained, "You're finally here, Mom!

You didn't come to see me for ten days. I thought that you forgot about me because you have Dad now."

Toward the end of his words, the smile hanging on his lips was replaced by a grumpy pout.

"Of course not. I didn't come because I was busy the past few days. I'm here now that I'm done with work, aren't I?"

She did her best to comfort him while she reached out to pat him on the head.

Hayden proceeded to stare at her for a long minute. It felt as if he had noticed something.

Seeing this, Nicole began to feel guilty for some reason.

She had properly checked and made sure that all the marks on her body were gone before she left Colton's place

today.

"I missed you so much, Mom." Hayden buried his head into her chest, and in return, Nicole smilingly caressed the

top of his head.

She only turned to look at Benedict when he softly coughed a few times.

Carrying Hayden in her arms, she looked at Benedict with a small smile on her face. She then greeted him in a

hushed voice, "Grandpa."

An embarrassed look flashed across Benedict's face when he heard that. After thinking for a while, he awkwardly

muttered, "About William… It… was my fault. I'm sorry."

Benedict spent most of his life dominating the business world. A man as superior as he rarely humbled himself like

he was now.

"It is alright." Nicole flashed a faint smile and cocked her head. "I understand where you were coming from. Even I

can't promise I won't get mad if I was the one encountering something like this."

Seeing how forgiving she was made Benedict feel ashamed. He whispered, "I was the one at fault."

Nicole only smiled without saying another word. Benedict, too, didn't continue talking about this as he changed the

topic. "I heard from Colton that you are a Wrenn?"

She nodded in reply. Her smile soon turned bitter as she lowered her gaze and uttered under her breath, "Yes.

Madeline Houston switched me out for another child a few years ago. That's how things ended up like this."

"Do you hate her?" Benedict asked, his eyes fixated on Nicole.

Nicole shook her head and breathed. "I don't. She is gone. Hating her will only make me miserable."

Upon hearing her answer, Benedict nodded and sighed, "I can't get over this. I'll forever remember how she looked

when she died in my arms…"

Nicole knew that Benedict was talking about how William had hit Ella with his car, ultimately causing Ella's death.

Benedict was extremely against Nicole being with Colton back when Nicole was still William's daughter.

Things were much better now after she got rid of that identity.

With a faint smile on her face, Nicole pondered for a moment before she reassured Benedict, "I don't blame you,

Grandpa. I would have done the same if I were in your shoes."

Benedict let out another sigh at that. He didn't say anything much after that, but he did wave his hand and huff,

"That's that, then. I'm not butting in on your and Colton's business anymore. You can do whatever you want."

Nicole wanted to explain herself, but before she even said a word, Hayden tugged at her hand. "Mom's got it, Great

Grandpa! I'm going home with Mom now. We will come to visit you again!"
