Chapter 819

They decorated the exterior of the Gould Residence in an eye-catching way because of the party, but the interior

leaned toward vintage.

As soon as Nicole and Zachary stopped the car at the front door, an employee came over and offered to park the

car at the assigned parking lot.

So, Nicole stepped out of the car in her heels and long dress, which made her look dignified and exuded

confidence. Zachary walked over, stood by her side, and took her arm naturally. The pair looked like a match made

in heaven.

Since the banquet had yet to start, they only saw busy employees working in the front yard. Nonetheless, she was

warmly received by the butler, who led the way for her humbly. "Madam Gould has asked me to wait for you here.

Please follow me upstairs."

Nicole nodded and expressed her gratitude, "Thank you."

Zachary followed the flow and accompanied her upstairs in silence. However, the butler's gaze fell lightly on

Zachary the moment they arrived upstairs as if he was signaling something.

Of course, Zachary understood the butler's silent implication. So, he let Nicole go and looked at her with a gentle

smile. "I'll wait for you here."

She nodded and walked into the room while lifting her skirt slightly, careful not to trip over her dress. Nonetheless,

she was curious about what Siobhan had to say; everything seemed so mysterious. She didn't feel as though this

was just a mere thank you at this point, but she had to admit, she was intrigued and anxious.

She first noticed the room's warm brown tone when she walked into the room. A woman wearing a long dress was

sitting in a wheelchair. Nicole guessed that the woman was Siobhan through her figure.

She paused for a beat before greeting, "Hello, Madam Gould."

The woman slowly turned her head when she heard someone addressing her, and her gaze fell on Nicole.

The two seemed to have a tacit understanding; they even wore the same-colored dress. Siobhan smiled faintly

when she noticed the similarity and gestured at the stool in front of her. "Please have a seat. Although I have

almost recovered, my leg muscles and bones have not yet healed. It will take at least three months before I can

walk around without aid."

Nicole walked to the stool in a poised manner and sat on it with her back ramrod straight, betraying her

nervousness. She looked at Siobhan's face and could not help thinking how alike their features were. This made her

feel a little dazed.

Siobhan also wore light makeup. Perhaps it was because of the warm-colored long dress or the injury as Nicole

found that Siobhan no longer exuded the strong, unwavering aura like before. Instead, she looked gentler and more

approachable today.

"You can tell me whatever is on your mind, Madam Gould." Nicole was waiting for Siobhan to start.

Siobhan looked at Nicole gently with a smile on her face. Then, after a while, she asked, "I heard your mother

passed away. Is that right?"

Nicole was taken aback by the personal and unexpected question. Her eyelids twitched unconsciously, and the

palms on her knees began to curl. It was only after some time that she finally mustered up her energy to answer,

"Yes."

Siobhan realized that her question might be too abrupt. So, she apologized to Nicole before Nicole got offended. "I

would like to apologize, Nicole. I have to admit that I investigated your background, and that's also how I knew that

your father is now in prison. I recall that he has never raised you. Am I right?"

A glimpse of sadness appeared on Nicole's face as she was reminded of the painful memories. She crossed her

hands in front of her chest, looking a bit defensive, and quietly balled her hidden hand into a fist as she tried to hide

her adverse reaction to that inquiry. Finally, she paused for a moment and answered tremulously, "That's right."

Siobhan did not want to pour salt on Nicole's wound. Therefore, she changed the topic and commented, "You look

very similar to me. Not only in appearance, but also in temperament."

Nicole was unsure why Siobhan had changed the topic to something so irrelevant. Hence, she tugged her lips into

an awkward smile and merely replied softly, "Thank you for your compliment."

Siobhan looked at Nicole's well-behaved appearance and could not help but chuckle lightly. "Well, I'm not praising

you. Instead, I want to adopt you."

Siobhan dropped another bomb. But this time, it was thrown hard and caused ripples on the initially calm lake.

Nicole could not believe what she had just heard. Her eyes widened in disbelief, and doubts flashed across her face.
