Chapter 657
After Nicole woke up, she drank some soup. She felt much better after an hour. There was nothing to worry about
since Pierre had been caught, but she was clueless about Benedict's situation.
She thought over that matter for a while and asked, "What's the situation with Grandpa?"
Colton ruffled her hair and comforted her, "Don't worry about him. He's fine but doesn't want to tell us the cause of
his suffering. When you get better, I'll ask him about it."
Nicole felt a little disappointed. She held her hands, closed her eyes, and pondered for a long time before slowly
saying, "Since you caught Pierre, I don't think there's anything I need to worry about. I'll take Hayden home after a
few days. I can't do anything if Grandpa doesn't want to say anything. I'll just leave him alone."
Colton felt a pang of heartache when he looked at her trying to make the best out of this situation. He clasped her

"Don't worry. I won't allow anything untoward to happen. So, rest, and don't worry about this. I'll take you to see
Pierre tomorrow," Colton reassured her softly.
She nodded in agreement to his remarks. Perhaps it was due to the side effects of the drug; she soon felt sleepy as
she began to yawn.
He did not want to disrupt her rest, so he quietly left her room, closed the door with a soft click, and hurried back to
the Gardner Residence.
Anna was sitting in the living room, utterly beside with worry. Therefore, she immediately saw Colton as soon as he
returned and wasted no time grasping his hand in concern.
"Colton, you're home!" she exclaimed in a low voice with a look of sadness on her face.
He could tell what was going on judging from her expression, so he cleared his throat and asked, "Grandpa doesn't
want to say anything, does he?"
She nodded and sighed in frustration. "He looked so sad when he came out of the room, but he refused to say
anything other than ordering you to break up with Nicole and never allowing her into our house again!"
He frowned slightly at the news. He thought that Benedict would not blow up like this after figuring things out, but
from the looks of it, things weren't that simple.
"Well, he must give a reason before sentencing someone to death, right?" Colton clarified with a light chuckle.
Anna stepped forward, her gentle face full of resignation. "You've been close to him since you were a kid. He
doesn't want to tell us. Maybe, he'll tell you. Why don't you ask him?"
He immediately nodded after giving her suggestion a good thought. He had to understand why Benedict was so
eager to separate him and Nicole. They couldn't just back down without a fight.
"I will. No matter the misunderstanding, I will try my best to untangle this mess," he answered resolutely.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAfter he bid farewell to Anna, he went straight to Benedict's room. Benedict was sitting on the bed and wiping his
tears with a photo of his wife in his hand.
When Benedict heard the sound of the door opening, he quickly hid the photo, but Colton still saw it. He could
deduce what was happening after seeing the tears on Benedict's face and the picture in his hand.
"Grandpa, is... is it because of Nicole's relation to Grandma's death that you are so against her?"
Benedict was taken aback by Colton's relatively accurate deduction. He didn't intend to explain the reasoning
behind his decision, but he also didn't expect Colton to be right on the money.
Regardless, he instantly knew that his hunch was correct, judging from the slight shock on Benedict's face, so he
pressed on, "Grandma was hit by a car. At that time, Nicole was not yet an adult and could not drive. So, it is very
likely that Nicole's parents were the ones who caused Grandma's death."
The moment Benedict heard his accurate presumption, Benedict couldn't help but begin to sob into his hands.
Finally, he took out the photo frame he had just hidden with shaky hands. His fingertips lightly traced the picture of
the smiling woman.
