Chapter 96 In a daze, I heard a creak, like a door opening, followed by the sound of footsteps.
It was probably Selena. She let out a long sigh, but I couldn't catch what she said as the sound was too faint.
I wasn't sure how much thad passed when I finally woke up and felt a little lighter.
Unlocking my phone, the first thing I saw was a photo of Sylvia and me.
In the picture, I was seen forcing a smile, one that didn't look particularly good, but Sylvia, on the other hand, was beaming with joy. Judging from the angle, it was likely a selfie she took.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtA message notification pinged. It was from Sylvia.
"Hudson, I really miss you." Seeing her message, I was suddenly reminded that, right, I had a girlfriend.
I glanced at the ton my phone and realized it was eight in the morning, which was tto get ready for work. Just as I was heading out, I heard the door creak. Selena emerged from the room next door and looked atwith a somewhat strained expression.
So, she could sleep alone after all.
"Hud, it's only eight. Where are you headed so early?" I raised an eyebrow. While I still felt a bit of resentment toward Selena, it wasn't as strong as before. I replied casually, "To work." She seemed momentarily taken aback by my response. "Wait for me. I'll head to the office with you." She turned back into her room. I wasn't sure how long I waited, but it didn't feel too long before she cout.
She was dressed in a long dress, her hair flowing loosely over her shoulders. Despite her meticulously applied makeup, she looked weary. Selena carefully hooked her heels, walking gingerly to my side.
"Hud, I'm ready. Let's go together." I felt no reaction to Selena's friendly gesture.
I suddenly realized something. Selena's condition didn't matter toanymore. As long as she wasn't self- harming or suicidal, that was enough. Whatever else she dealt with wasn't my concern.
After all, people were inherently conflicted beings.
All I needed to do was help Selena handle things at the company.
Actually, maybe I didn't even need to do that. The board elders could say what they wanted. With the amount of shares Selena held, they couldn't shake her position. fo So, what was I striving for? Then I remembered that Sylvia wasn't back yet.
Once she was back, I'd resign and leave with her.

"Sylvia, I miss you too."
The days went by uneventfully. For sreason, Selena stopped m seeking the out. We commuted to work together, and she no longer cto my room at night.
Sometimes, lying alone in my room, staring at the empty ceiling. I would find myself strangely reminded of certain moments, certain times.
Yet, I couldn't remember what kind of times those were.
One day, out of nowhere, I received a call from an unfamianumber.
