Chapter 200
"Go home! Your mother will chfor sure!"
Ines was even more anxious than Jessica.
Henry was Jessica's own son, and on top of that, he was the apple of the Lawson family's eye-nothing could be
allowed to happen to him.
Ines quickly handed Jessica her phone. "You'd better get back right now."
It wasn't until Jessica promised Henry she was on her way hthat he finally
hung up.
Jessica's heart ached.
She had worked up so much courage to cmeet Mr. Smith, and now, for reasons she couldn't even fathom,
Henry was threatening to jump off the balcony just to force her to cback.
She tried to explain herself to Ines.
But Ines just patted her on the shoulder, offering a comforting smile. "Don't worry about it, just go home. Do as
you're told."

Ines even arranged for her own driver to take Jessica back.
Watching the car pull away, Ines let out a helpless sigh.
No wonder Jessica had never been able to break free all these years.
Once a woman has a child, that child becomes a lifelong bond that can never truly be severed.
Trying to build a career as a woman was already tough enough; with a child, it was a hundred times harder.
Ines turned and walked back into The Silverthread Eatery.
Jessica had promised her, no matter what setbacks she faced, she wouldn't give up.
Clearly, Ines needed to find a way to talk to Timothy, to see if something could be done-maybe coordinate things
at home, and give Jessica a real shot at showing what she could do.
Meanwhile, Sheila had just received Henry's message.
[Miss Sheila, it's done. My mom's already on her way home.]
[How did you manage that?]
[I told her I'd jump off the balcony if she didn't cback. That did the trick.]
Sheila let out a small, amused smile.
Still, she shot Henry a reply.
[You silly boy, don't ever do something like that again. | just wanted you to ask your mom to chome
because every mother loves her child, and | didn't want trouble at home. But don't you ever use that kind of
threat again, understand?]
[Okay, | promise. I'll listen to you, Miss Sheila.]
Sheila finally relaxed.
Jessica might be talented, and she had Ines backing her, but Director Smith was one of the top names in
international animation, famous for his demanding standards. Tonight, he'd set this meeting with Jessica, and
now she couldn't even make it—he'd definitely take note of that.
For all Sheila knew, Timothy might land the role for her tonight, and Jessica would be out of the picture for good.
Who would have guessed that a mute woman like Jessica could be so gifted in animation that even Mr. Smith
would clooking for her?
Sheila was proud to be among the rising stars in the international animation scene, and Timothy cared a great
deal about her career.
There was no way she'd let Jessica steal her thunder.

"Mr. Smith."
A waiter led Ines into the private dining room, and she greeted Mr. Smith warmly.
She recognized Timothy and Yates; Timothy introduced her to Kane and Vince as well.
Timothy even gave up the seat closest to Mr. Smith so Ines could sit there.
Mr. Smith glanced toward the entrance one more time, not seeing Ines's student anywhere. "Wasn't there
supposed to be someone else joining us?"
Ines explained, "She had an emergency at home. Her son was having a fit, and she had to go."
She couldn't say in front of everyone that Henry had threatened to jump.
Mr. Smith's disappointment was obvious. "I waited all this time, and we'd arranged everything. | really thought I'd
finally get to meet her. Who knew it would be this hard just to see her in person? This is the first tI've
encountered such an... unpredictable animation producer."
Mr. Smith's stellar reputation in the animation world cin no small part from his discipline and
professionalism.
And with his name, animation specialists lined up for a chance to work with him. He'd only been willing to wait so
patiently because he genuinely admired the work of Ines's star pupil. But now, seeing this situation unfold, he
began to wonder: if she could drop everything for her child once, what was to stop her from doing it again, even
after committing to a project?
