Chapter 75 Chapter 75 Brooklyn "Brooklyn?" My head swivels towards the door as it pushes open, a dark head peeking from behind it. "Hudson," I say with a weak smile.

I'm sitting cross-legged on the ground, my hands still locked to the floor with the chain and padlock. Hudson frowns at me, stepping inside. "You seem...far better than I expected." I give him a little shrug.

I've been down here alone for about ten minutes. Actually, I've been getting kind of bored.

"No real harm done," I hear myself say. And what's weird is that I actually mean it.

Hudson comes over to me, kneeling on the ground in front ofand producing a key from his pocket.

"It's just..." Hudson says as he works to free me. "I've seen people after my dad...teaches them a lesson." "Oh?" I ask. "And I'm different?" "Well, yeah. You're just sitting here, kind of... peaceful? When he is flying around upstairs all pissed off?" The satisfaction I get from that is so powerful I have to stop myself from grinning ear to ear.

Aden wants to control me, but I have a say in this, too.

Hudson pauses for a moment and studies me. "What did you do to him?" I could almost laugh.

What did I, Brooklyn, a nobody, do to the Mafia King? I don't give anything away.

Hudson sighs and finishes unlocking the cuffs, settingfree.

I stand, rubbing my wrists-which really are sore-and look around.

"What did he do to you?" Hudson asks, slipping his hands into his pockets and standing as well.

I glance at the whip at the floor. I don't know how to say the words out loud.

Not just because of how awful Hudson will think it is, and he'd be right.

But because of how much pleasure I took from it.

Hudson's eyes widen as he sees the direction of my gaze. "Wait, did he...use that on you?" I meet his eyes and give him a little smile.

"Not hard," I say, truthfully. After all, I barely feel it now. "I think he was just trying to scarea little." Hudson looks at me, aghast, but my smile only widens.

"Do you want to go upstairs?" I ask.

He nods slowly and gestures towards the door, like he still can't figureout.

I walk out of the room and down the hallway ahead of him.

"Actually," I say over my shoulder. "Do you want to get something to eat and bring it up to my room? I could use a snack." Hudson doesn't reply, and when I glance back, he's watchingas we ascend the stairs.

A few minutes later, we're curled up on my bed, sharing a bottle of white wine and a box of donuts that Hudson swiped from the kitchen.

The rest of the room is still a complete wreck-furniture overturned, clothes and books thrown everywhere -but the bed we were able to set to rights pretty easily.

I ignore the mess as I bite into my second powdered donut, overlooking the dusting of sugar that falls all over my shirt and comforter while I chase the food with a sip of wine.

en "So," Hudson says, holding his still-full glass of wine uncomfortably in his hands. "You're seriously okay?" "Yeah," I tell him, shrugging one shoulder. "Seriously, I mean, it was scary. But it didn't hurt." "And he just chained you to floor and yelled at you? And then hit you on the...ass?" "No, he chainedto the table first," I say, taking another bite. "To interrogate me." Hudson stares at me, still shocked by my reaction.

"Con," I say. "It's really okay." Hudson sighs, looking down into his glass.

"It sounds like the sort of thing he does pretty often. That's why he has the chain in the middle of the He uses it to... initiate people.dnto the trust of the family." I raise an eyebrow at him, doubting that Aden's previous interrogations have gotten...well...that hot. But I don't say that to Hudson.

Instead, I ask another question. "Does that mean I'm like...made now? A made man? Officially 'in the family'?" Hudson scoffs. "No way," he says with a little laugh. "If you were made, you'd be way more shaken by it. He makes you take all kinds of oaths, lets you see the sort of stuff hell....do to you. If you go against the family." He grimaces a little at this.

QUMS "How do you know?" I cock my head to the side curiously. "Are you made?" "I've been made since I was born," Hudson murmurs, looking down.

"But you didn't go through like...a ceremony." He shakes his head.

"Then how do you know what it's like?" I hear myself ask.

Hudson pauses before answering.

"He made me...watch. A few times.

Made me.... participate occasionally. So I'd know what to do when the tcforto do the same."

"Oh," I say. I pause to consider how it makesfeel.

Then realize. I think l'daqtually like to to see that." "What?!" Hudson exclaims, looking atwith disgust on his face.

"What?" I reply, frowning at him. "This ΟΜ is my world now. Maybe I'm curious." is Hudson narrows his eyes at me. "I thought we were leaving." And that's when it hits me.

I don't want to leave at all.
