Chapter 1789
Gavin’s face was a picture of shock, “I thought your relationship was a typical office romance. But now, it seems it’s
a dramatic reunion after a broken relationship!”
Charlie seemed a bit annoyed, “A dramatic reunion implies there are cracks.
Emily and I are a perfect match!”
Gavin was left speechless by Charlie’s response.
After Gavin left, Charlie called the head of the branch office, asking, “How is Elliott doing?”
The manager, surprised by Charlie’s personal interest, immediately replied, “He’s doing quite well, sir. I’ve been
preparing to discuss a promotion and raise for him in the upcoming meeting.”
Charlie’s voice was ice cold, “No need. Fire him.”
The manager was taken aback, “Fire him?”
“Yes. Terminate his contract, and compensate accordingly as stipulated. He’s dismissed” Charlie’s tone was firm
and decisive.

For the rest of the morning, Charlie reviewed documents while Kya sat next to him, engrossed in her drawings. The
heartwarming scene made everyone who came to get his signature tread lightly.
When Kya got tired of drawing, Charlie picked her up and let her run and play in the office. She was thoroughly
enjoying herself.
The James family.
Although Kya had only been at home for a few days, Mrs. James felt empty without her. She couldn’t muster the
energy to do anything.
Mr. James spent some time in Kya’s playroom upstairs. When he came down, he asked Mrs. James, “Is the nanny
we hired for Kya reliable? Is she a professional childminder?”
“I heard she’s competent,’ Mrs. James replied blankly, then added, “I think I need to talk to Ms. Sullivan.
“If you’re not going to accept her, I suggest you reconsider. It would upset Charlie,” Mr. James warned as he sat on
the couch. “Think about it. Ms.
Sullivan gave birth to Kya abroad, and then raised her for two years. Would she willing to give Kya up? And from
your previous conversation with her, she doesn’t seem like someone driven solely by money.”
Mrs. James was getting frustrated, “But I can’t let Charlie marry a woman from that kind of family. It doesn’t matter
who Charlie marries, but it can’t be a girl from such a family. They are greedy and clingy. I can’t let Charlie become
a source of gossip in J city”
Mr. James said, “We could deal with it easier before, but now with Kya in the picture, things won’t be so
straightforward,”
Mrs. James suddenly remembered something, “Regarding the incident at OrbitaTech Ventures, was it because of
Emily’s father?”
Mr. James frowned, “Although it was because of Emily’s father, he did help to resolve it.”
“But the problem originated from him!” Mrs. James considered, “I might not need to approach Emily; I can talk to
her family. Ask them about their thoughts on Emily’s relationship with Charlie. Their attitude might give us a clue
about what’s going to happen in the future”
If the Sullivans were desperately trying to ingratiate themselves, Mrs. James couldn’t agree to this union, no matter
what Emily said! While Emily herself wasn’t driven by money, her family seemed to have such tendencies, and that

If the Sullivans weren’t the type to seek favor, then she would consider a different approach. At least she won’t
embarrass Emily and her family.
Mr. James didn’t agree with her approaching the Sullivans family directly; he believed that Charlie should handle this
matter on his own.
But Mrs. James couldn’t bear not seeing Kya and felt the need to take action.
Around noon, Mrs. James called Bard and asked him to take her to the Elliott’s house.
Through Barret’s connections at the branch office, they were able to ascertain the Sullivan’s address.
Upon reaching their destination, Gina and Bonnie were both home. However, their expressions soured when they
saw Bard.
“What do you want?” Gina’s face clearly showed her displeasure.
She recognized the man as the head of OrbitaTech Ventures. They had met at the hospital before. The woman
accompanying him, who appeared to be around fifty, exuded elegance with a well-maintained demeanor. It was
clear she was not an ordinary person.
Could it be that Emily couldn’t afford the losses from the fire, so the company’s representatives had come to their
home? How did they know she lives here?
