"Finally," Jasper whispered.
Alyssa smiled. "Yes, finally." "Landon, Jasper toldyou've already informed Mr. Cornelius of your intention to marry Lauren. Is that right?" Newton questioned with a serious look on his face.
Landon answered immediately, "I didn't just inform my grandfather. I've announced it to my entire family.
Grandpa has agreed. My mother didn't oppose either." Alyssa and Jasper shot a look at each other. They understood what they were each thinking about.
They knew that Landon was sharing only the good news. The process of convincing Cornelius must have been a difficult one.
At the stime, he wouldn't have cared about whether Penelope approved of them. She wasn't the one who had the final say in their family.

"If it's okay with you, | will consult a fortune teller to decide on an auspicious date. We can first have an engagement ceremony. Then, both our families shall be forging a marriage alliance formally." Landon was overjoyed to hear the word "engagement". Lauren leaned on him. She was blushing shyly. Tears of happiness filled her eyes.
As they were happily discussing, they completely ignored Javier, who was the head of the Beckett family. All of a sudden, he had a flashback of a memory from 30 years ago.
Back then, Newton and Chester were as thick as thieves Eley shared endless conversation topics between them.
Javier, on the other hand, was unable to fit in with them. He was like an outsider. He simply sat by the side on his own. It was as if he was invisible.
Newton really doted on Chester. Unfortunately, Chester died at a young age. Had he not, the Beckett Group wouldn't have ended up under Javier.
Newton's appearance here was timely. Without wasting any time, he had Landon and Lauren's marriage almost all planned out.
Now, Lauren was rightfully known as his fiancée. Landon was so glad that he was jumping with joy like a playful child.
Javier had stormed back upstairs. Even so, he didn't forget to maintain good etiquette. He asked Betty to see Newton off.
Betty didn't dare to go against Javier's instruction. So, she bit the bullet and followed them outdoors.
Everyone else was walking ahead of her. She tagged along behind like a servant. She didn't have the guts to join them either.
However, she continued glaring viciously at Lauren. She was like a scorpion that was ready to strike with its stinger.
"Betty." Suddenly, Newton stopped in his tracks.
"Yes, Grandpa! I'm here!" Betty hurried over to Newton. She placed her hands in front of her in an obedient posture.

"Sophia is now dead. Plus, | understand if you went astray because you were young. So, | shall let bygones be bygones," Newton uttered coldly without looking at her.
"It's not like that, Grandpa. I..." "But, you should know the kind of person | am. | cannot tolerate any filthy behavior. Now, the cancer in our Beckett family has been eliminated. | do not wish to see any other troubles rising from Seaview Manor. Neither do | want to hear any more malicious gossip nor hear about anyone getting in trouble." Following that, Newton diverted his frigid gaze toward Betty. She was looking pale. "I will continue acknowledging you as my granddaughter if you behave yourself. Otherwise, don't blme for being merciless.
| hope all the wickedness dies along with Sophia." Deep down, Betty felt indignant. She couldn't hold herself back any longer. She tried to defend herself.
"Grandpa! What. What did | do wrong? You were the one who raised me. | was the one who spent the longest twith you. | obey and respect you as much as Jasper and Laurie! What is it aboutthat prompted you to say these things to me?" Jasper and Alyssa stared at her coldly as they watched her put up a performance.
"Do you know what the ugliest thoughts one could have in this world?" Newton asked in a deep voice.
Betty was taken aback by the sudden question.
"It is when one can't bear to see others living a better life than theirs, even if that other person might be their own sister," Newton explained.
