"I never really liked any of this food before, you know. | only pretended to because everyone kept saying I did.

Honestly, it's like the real person who enjoys this stuff is someone else entirely."

Calliope shot a glance at Lisette.

Lisette had been happily digging into her breakfast until she heard Calliope. She straightened up, looking

genuinely puzzled.

"Wait, you mean you didn't actually like these breakfasts?" Lisette blurted, shaking her head. "I mean, | really do

love waffles and bacon, but I had no idea you felt pressured to like them too!"

She looked a little shocked. With Calliope here, the whole Jewell family felt like a minefield to Lisette. It used to

just be her, but now Silas was involved too, and that made everything even more complicated.

Silas seemed to be deliberately stirring the pot.

"Con, it's just breakfast. Why be so picky? Scrambled eggs are scrambled eggs, you know?" Zelda

grumbled. "It's not like eating breakfast from Essence Delight will make you immortal or something."

Zelda's patience snapped. "Lisette eats anything you put in front of her. How cyou're always so fussy,

Callie?"

Calliope looked up at Zelda, her voice calm but steady. "I don't think I'm that fussy, am I? I've eaten the same

things as everyone else these past few days, haven't 1?"

Zelda, who always had a soft spot for Lisette, frowned.

"Do you have to be so harsh, Zelda?" Silas interjected, narrowing his eyes. "Callie never said she refused to eat

any of this. But | hate seeing her forced into things she doesn't enjoy. When she's with me, | make sure she's

happy. She shouldn't have to eat food she hates just to please you all."

He slammed his fork down on the table with a sharp clang. The whole room froze; nobody dared move or take

another bite.

"Mr. Myers, please, calm down. I'll make breakfast tomorrow, okay?" Monty gulped, trying to defuse the tension.

"No need," Silas replied coldly. "We'll just go out for breakfast next time."

He turned to Calliope. "Con, Callie. Let's go get something you actually like."

"I'll drive," Valerian jumped in, eager

to please. "Callie, if you wanted something from Essence Delight, you could've just told me. | always want you to

be happy! Look, | can't buy you the whole world, but breakfast? | can handle that."

Silas glared at Valerian and ignored him, leading Calliope out the door. Valerian followed close behind.

As soon as they were gone, Monty

rounded on Zelda. "Are you trying to get us all kicked out of town? Do you realize one word from Silas and we're

finished here in Capitalton? It's

just breakfast, for Christ's sake! Let her eat what she wants!"

Zelda shot back, "Maybe if you weren't so spineless, we wouldn't have to worry about him! And seriously, what

kind of father-in-law is scared of his own son-in- law?"

She turned to Lisette, softening her tone. "Lisette, don't mind them. Eat up! | made all your favorites. Enjoy,

sweetheart."
